Adorable dress, Curious! If it were me, I would have the straps altered because it seems to fit well :flower:

Yes... that strap would not be very difficult to alter.

a wider belt might be nice
Yeah, either wide or super skinny and tight, Prada style or something. I really don't know what I'm talking about. :ermm:

dream...my favourite way is no belt and with necklace...(the last one)
you don't need a belt if it is a drop waist like that...

agree it really doesn't work well closed...
that with skinny blk pants or jns tucked into high or ankle boots...

I second that, it looks lovely with the necklace :flower:

Thanks you guys! That's what I'll do. Just needed some reassurance that the rest of it looked proportioned :flower:

I will give it another try with all your helpful comments in mind. The belt thing was blocking me & maybe no belt is the way to go! Many thanks everyone for your helpful replies :flower:

could also be cute with a skinny cropped pant and flat sandals...
more 'bohemian'...
:flower:

i really like that top btw...

that top is very interesting...what about putting it over a ribbed white tank and a full white skirt (like dries)? also, it might look nice with something red...

I agree---the rest of the dress looks like it fits fine.

A lot of times they make the straps way longer than any person could conceivably need. I've fixed straps on more sundresses than I care to count. I don't know what's up with that.

In a lot of catalogue photos, they fix everything with hidden safety pins, anyway. That girl in the catalogue photo probably had it pinned, herself.

i think i agree with evryone else on the top !
looks best open w/no belt & the necklace
would be nice to try different colour combinations underneath !
like the idea of maroon maybe !

i don'tthink this is a particularly flattering dress in general...

i'm going against the grain and saying return it completely...
i'm sure you can do better...
that pouf skirt doesn't do anyone any favours...
:ninja:...
plus the colour is so difficult unless you have brown skin...

uh-oh...

Well, that's good to know

I was questioning that too and thinking about putting in Yay or Nay. I am a bit pale for the dress and while I'm planning on getting some color, it is a bit on the pricey side for an "it will look good with a tan" dress!

Interesting about the pouf skirt. That was actually what drew me to it! I value your opinion, though. If you say so, it's true!

It was worth a try. The embroidery on it is BEAUTIFUL, but I guess it's not meant to be... * sigh *

Thanks for the insight :flower:

And, AYLI, that is true about the straps! I feel the same way about today's jeans. Why are they all 36 inches long?? What percentage of the population is actually that tall??

i agree that the print is lovely...curious...
but imo...that is the only good thing about the dress...
and it's not enough...

it does look expensive...
but i think i'd say this no matter how much it cost...
sorry...:(

NO! Don't apologize! I'm thankful for the honest opinion :)

You're right. It's a beautiful print that will work on someone else

These are all great suggestions- I feel very inspired to resurrect this item from my closet :) Many thanks everyone :flower:

^ Just saw that. No problem. Sent the dress back yesterday, btw ;)

So now, I'm back :D I'll start with the easy one. Can I get away w/ wearing these shoes w/ this outfit?

It's a chocolate a-line eyelet dress w/ a shrunken camel jkt and a chocolate gross-grain ribbon tie. The shoes are magenta/camel tweed peep-toes w/ a flower.

I have chocolate/camel slingbacks that would be the sober way to do it, but I wondered if I could get away w/ these too??

This next one is not so easy (at least I don't think so :p). The scenario:

5PM backyard wedding on Saturday. Weather is supposed to be 65-70 degrees w/ isolated thundershowers. I am an "honorary bridesmaid". For those that want to know what that means (I did :D), it means that the bride has a boat load of close girlfriends and didn't want a Star Jones wedding! It also means that I get to wear my own dress  I will have a corsage & a necklace from the bride. I don't have any idea what these look like. The big unknown??

I've decided to wear my navy silk Balenciaga dress. It's neutral so should go w/ any piece of jewelry. I need a jacket, wrap or sweater of some sort b/c it could get chilly.

Anyhow, these are the pieces I currently own that I think might work. What do you think? I am also not opposed to make a quick local run for other pieces that might work. Any suggestions? I was thinking a blk cardi shrug (I'm looking to replace one anyway), silver cage ankle straps....??

In addition to the below, I also have a plain blk wrap & the blue shoes were really more to show the shape. Will a round toe or peep toe work?

Piece breakdown:

tops -
- blk velvet blazer (shown w/ collar up but can be worn down for same neckline as white blzr)
- wht textured cotton blzr (afraid might be too casual for silk dress)
- cream w/ lace trim cardi shrug

shoes -
- blk lthr ankle straps
- croc embossed peep-toes
- gold t-straps

definitley definitley the silver shoes with the dress...
my fave it the last look...and i think you need a silver bag...

as for the first question...
i like that look...
but i need to see a close up of the shoes i think...
i'm thinking it is definitley pushing the envelope...but i think it works...
i would also like those teal/turq croc shoes with that maybe...:flower:
