Editorials with Similar Themes

^Good find, they are really similair.

Sad but true, this thing happens at magazine outside of the major markets ALL THE TIME. I'm not naming names but I know countless fashion editors in Europe who spend their time ripping pages out of Vogue (US, IT, FR, even Australia) to copy in future shoots. The photographers are told to use the same light, the hair/makeup team is told to do the same look and the stylist is told to look for the same clothes.

Pathetic. And boring.

I looked it up for you.

Marcelina's edit. is from Vogue Russia June 2007.
Stam's is from i-D August 2007

Just a little correction. Stam's ed is from August 2006, the one with Beyonce on the cover.

^Thanks for that. So there is more than a year between the two eds. I guess the photographer really like his idea.

But where is the line between "liking an idea" and stealing a concept? I think it's unethical and lazy to directly copy other editorials on the market.

I'm actually struggling with myself at work, trying to decide how recent is too recent to even source for inspiration. What do you all think?

I think in the case of Capello it's hardly unethical because it concerns his own work. An artis/photogapher is free to reinterpret his own work, and redo it.

Of course that's okay, that's all about a photographer having, or working through, a particular style. What bothers me is when photographers copy current editorials. We really only see it abroad in the smaller markets. Oh well...

^that Catherine ed actually reminds me this:
Helmut Lang, Dutch #30, Nov/Dec 2000
Photographer: Mikael Jansson
Fashion Editor: Joanne Blades
Set Design: Stefan Beckman for Exposure; Marla Weinhof
Hair: Michael Lundgren @ Wilson Wenzel
Make-up Artist: Mark Carasquillo @ Art & Commerce

great finds Annu and Mullet....
Catherine's *** is still the best, imo...
about the cowboy theme, it's funny to see how magazines are in the styling pretty different..... you could even recognize if it's a High Fashion Magazine or a more Indie one....
the styling makes it all........
imo, Dazed interprets it better.... well with a new vision, at least...having fun with clothes.... mixing, trying, interpreting....
Numéro is too literal, i would say....

about the photog', I think Jansson made the best... because it tells a story.... I'm not fond of studio shooting.... I like it when it tells a story... you can imagine yourself wearing it, easier... but of course, it gives a solo interpretation....
and of course, it's more about the work of a photog', his abilities to build something....

Kadel even copy/paste a M&M portrait, non? maybe i'm wrong....

^I know, but which M&M picture do you mean

^well i don't remember........ but it really reminds me them.....
i think it was Kate Moss.... it really looks similar... but Kate wasn't profile, i think...(make-up, hair and b&w...)
