i already saw that. i heard he's a real ***, so we can't exactly rely on what he says. expecially what he said about Reese. of course she was acting! she's a woman who's happily married to her husband, whom she loves dearly! dumb***...

Celebrities are usually on their best behaviour when being interviewed so I always take it with a grain of salt when a reporter gushes about how polite or well-mannered someone is. If your coworkers think you're an @ss, I think that carries more weight since they spent long hours with you and probably saw your real personality.

Well, most of her coworkers have had nothing but nice things to say about her.
-Flo Greenberg, who was Rossum's coach at the Actors Workshop, says her former student isn't driven by fame.

"Emmy is not an aggressive, publicity-grabbing young actress," Greenberg says. "I did say to her once - and I don't know if she heard me - that I don't think it is a good idea to date actors in the same cast. But she is so serious about her work that it probably never would occur to her to do that."from the NY Daily News

-Andrew Lloyd Webber: "I was sort of bowled over, because it had been a joy to work with her" from Comingsoon.net

-Patrick Wilson: "At the end of the day it doesn't matter how many publicists or agents or hair people say this or that. When you walk onto a set and you're not only the leading lady but the youngest person there, I would imagine you go one of two ways: You either crawl into a corner and go 'Can I come out now?' Or you go 'Here I am'. Emmy does the later. That's who she is. But her strength to me is eye to eye-listening to eachother and working together-and she does that. Something just happens when the camera starts rolling, and those scenes we shot together, that's where the joy was for me." from Elle

-Gerard Butler:CS: How was it working with Emmy, who was a relative newcomer to making movies?

Butler: She's wonderful, extremely talented, and she's beautiful. I was there at the screen test when she walked in. She hadn't even sung a word, and I said to Joel "That's Christine". She's incredible sensual, but also very innocent looking. She's hugely confident but professional, and she's done the most amazing job as Christine." from Comingsoon.net

--Joel Schumaker:""She knew the best of the text. She was untiring and was never late." from Paris Match

-"I think it's a great deal of pressure on any child," he allows, "to have to do an adult's job in an adults works. But Emmy doesn't seem to be a workaholic. she has tons of friends, and a boyfriend - she's in love."from Teen Vogue

-"She's very formidable about her feelings and her thoughts, which I think is great. I think Emmy should give lessons on how to be a professional. She was the most prepared, the most tireless, never late. She would do a thousand takes if you'd let her." from Elle

Some people she's worked with have explained why she sometimes comes off as a diva:

-Alan Hruska (director of Nola)-"She has a very keen sense of her own worth- and that may not be a quality that's universally admired" from Elle

-Maggie Greenwald (director of Songcatcher)-"This was her first film and she was incredable assertive for someone that inexperienced, but if you have a lot of talent, like Emmy does, you can get away with that, up to a point" from Elle

-Jake Gyllenhaal: "Emmy has such a presence. When I met her at her audition, I thought I was auditioning for her"

To me it sounds like she's very professional, very dedicated to her work and very assertive. She doesn't waste time and she wants the best of herself to be refleted in everything she does. Often people take that as being bitchy, snobby etc. when in reality it has nothing to do with the other person. I'm kind of a perfectionist myself and when I was in school, some people thought I looked down on them. That wasn't the case at all, I wanted to do the best work I was capable of. It was about my standards for myself- not anyone else. I'm still like that. And people who spend a lot of time with me and get to know me realize that, and come to understand that I'm actually a pretty nice person. But with people who don't know me that well, I'm often afraid they comne away with a false impression of my character.

Alan Hruska (director of Nola)-"She has a very keen sense of her own worth- and that may not be a quality that's universally admired" from Elle

That doesn't necessarily say she's nice.

That doesn't say she's nice either. That talks about her talent.

-Patrick Wilson: "At the end of the day it doesn't matter how many publicists or agents or hair people say this or that. When you walk onto a set and you're not only the leading lady but the youngest person there, I would imagine you go one of two ways: You either crawl into a corner and go 'Can I come out now?' Something just happens when the camera starts rolling, and those scenes we shot together, that's where the joy was for me." from Elle

That also doesn't say anything about her being nice it's just that she's confident.

-Jake Gyllenhaal: "Emmy has such a presence. When I met her at her audition, I thought I was auditioning for her"

Makes her sound intimidating. It doesn't say she's nice.

--Joel Schumaker:""She knew the best of the text. She was untiring and was never late." from Paris Match

also doesn't say she's nice.

None of these really say she's easy to work with. Most of them basically say she's proffessional. I'm not on either side. I've never met her. I just wanted to point out that none of these really prove to me that she's a lovely young girl or anything. And Patrick and Gerry always striked me as lovely guys that would always say something nice. Always bringing out something positive.

I'm just simply putting that forward as how I see all those quotes.

... you know, I couldn't care less what Emmy's like. I just like her voice and sense of style.

very,very true.

I love that white luncheon dress. It's so pretty. I also love the black anne-frank one. but the silver one I really don't like. It makes her look anorexic which I know she's not.

I don't think she looks too skinny in the silver one....It's not my favorite, but she looks OK in it, IMO

i don't think she looks anorexic at all. she's always been on the lean side. plus, she's got great hips.

I didn't say that they said she was nice, I said they were nice, positive things to say about her. No one complained she was a diva or conceited. And I consider professionalism, confidence, intelligence and talent to be good qualities.

However, you did leave out Andrew Lloyd Webber saying: "I was sort of bowled over, because it had been a joy to work with her"- to me that says she was good to work with!:p As well as the fact that "Emmy is not an aggressive, publicity-grabbing young actress" which a lot of people have accused her of. Gerard Butler said she was "wonderful" (which I don't think he would say if he hated her- he'd just leave it at the fact that she a professional). Joel Schumaker mentioned that she had a lot of friends. Someone on the last page said she was very sweet at the Bloomingdales Window Unveiling even when the camera wern't rolling.

To me when people say things like this about you it means that they like you for some reason. People who have worked with her, have addressed the diva rumors and said that there is a reason that she can come off that way (because she's extremely professional, confident, and a perfectionist). Emmy ferself has said that she felt very out of place in school and felt that she didn't fit in with her peers (which could explain why she wasn't well liked there)

I personally like her as an actress/singer, and I like her style. It doesn't partcilarly matter to me what she's like in person. But it does often bother me that with celebs in general people choose to believe the bad stuff about them and ignore the good. In this particular case I care a little more because I think that people often percieve me as a snob because I have very high standards, I'm very amitious, and very focused. I try not to give off that impression, and when people get to know me they realize who I actually am and it's fine. But it sounds like the same thing is often done with Emmy and I felt the need to point it out.

I don't choose to believe the bad stuff. I take the good stuff into consideration too. It's just none of those really said anything great about her. In fact they could just be saying the diva things in a nice way. A lot of these people are known to be extremely lovely and nice and so of course unlike Josh Lucas they'd want to give her a better light and all that. But really they might just be saying the truth of she's a diva in nice words. And no, I'm not saying she is a diva. It's just how I kind of perceive it. It's just possibility. ok... so I missed out the ALW one cause there's not much to say on that. as for her acting teacher. That says she's not out for publicity. Also saying she's proffessional. Nothing about her being a nice person.

and also I'm not sure I believe her when she says she felt out of place out of school. Mainly cause of all those rumours of the fact that she was quite mean at school. You know those rumours of how she was actually like a Queen Bee with all the latest handbags and stuff and really bullied an immigrant or something.

I believe that it's highly likely that she's changed since then whether now she's changed to be the nicest person in the world or she's just slightly nicer and wiser of what she says. I'm just still trying to keep an open mind about it all. I won't make a judgement till I meet her.

As for the lighting. Ok, she doesn't look anorexic but she looks very very very skinny! Maybe it's the lighting but she doesn't look good there. Although I do like the hair.

Well, like I said before, I do feel a certain personal stake in this discussion because of how I'm often percieved. Obviously I can't make any judgement about Emmy without knowing her, I can just talk about my perceptions (like you). But I never felt like I fit in with my peers at school (that changed in college, but ih grade school and high school I felt isolated and different) and if you asked some of my classmates they'd probably have said that I thought I was too good for them, or something along those lines. Which wasn't the case at all. I'm just saying this could be a similar thing. Maybe it's not. Maybe Emmy's a diva, maybe she's the sweetest perosn on earth, but in all liklihood she's somewhere in between. But a lot of people who said she was a diva were not people she'd worked with, and known well on a day to day basis, but rather people who had encountered her without really getting to know her (reporters, hairdressers etc.) People she worked with (with the exception of Josh Lucas) had positive things to say about her in general and her work ethic in particular. But like you said, there is no way to know definately unless you know her personally.

What a bastard thing to do. Can't he get his name in the papers without bad mouthing people? Plus if I was married to Ryan Philippie(sp?) I wouldn't be much interested in anyone else either and last I checked a screen kiss/stage kiss isn't supposed to be very "romantic" for lack of a better phrase. I wouldn't do my best with about 25 men staring at me filming me either.

***.

As for the "Is Emmy Nice" discussion... no idea because I've never met her, but she seems like a sweetie and, with women especially, assertiveness gets taken as bitchiness more often than not hence my hesitation to take it to heart. Then again I could be completely wrong and she could be a total diva.

Yeah, assertiveness and confidence does often get taken for bitchiness in women, now that I think of it. I don't know Josh Lucas so I'm not going to say he's a jerk, but it does seem a little unprofessional for answering those uestions. Most actors would just say "no comment" or something to that effect.

I'm sorry lostgirl to hear that you're misunderstood at schoool... or were misunderstood.

contrary to popular belief at school, I'm not a lesbian, so I'm pretty misunderstood too... but not quite in the same context.

Emmy could be anything, and until I have to work with her, I couldn't care less what she's like.

By the way, happy Lostgirl day! ;)

Thank you:D I take it you've been to the Emmy Fans boards! Are you a member?

When I got to college I wasn't AS misunderstood because everyone was very dedicated to what they were doing, and very ambitious. No one really cared what other's thought of them so I felt like I fit in better. I think in high school it's not as common to be very future oriented, and perfectionistic (is that even a word?). And there's such pressure to conform when you're younger that when someone doesn't feel that need, people don't know what to make of them. In college there wasn't really pressure to conform because everyone did their own thing. I was able to relate to people a lot better. I think some people still thought I was hard to work with, becuase I set such high standards for myself that when others that I was working with didn't want to meet the same standards there was some conflict. But I made friends much more easily.

But I can definately relate to feeling like you don't fit in, or are misunderstood.

As for Emmy, when/if someone here meets her, we'll be able to judge. Until then, we can appriciate her work and her style

yeah work and style and why on earth is the printer on? I swear I never turned it on! Maybe I turnd it on when I put my feet up.... no I would've felt that. I'll just blame the weather.
