Factory Girl

I watched it the other night thanks to the links posted :). Karma for those. I really enjoyed it, which i was surprised about. I really wasn't expecting to like it all that much. Sienna's accent anoyed the hell out of me though.

I thought the movie was OK...not amazing...and yes I noticed that there were a lot of inaccuracies (mostly from learning all this information from you guys ;)...I don't understand what the big deal is though...it's a movie, no one said it would be completely accurate...it was meant for entertainment...besides LB no one seems to have any connection to her so it should be not cause any distress to anyone else...maybe when the documentary comes out more people will want to see it b/c they heard about/watched FG and want to learn more about Edie...and find out the rest of her story/the truth

Ummmmmm Wow.....
So many right and wrong things in this movie....(been following Edie since I first saw Her in 1988 in a Warhol Retrospective)......the movie has it's fact's straight, but then they bumble it up with timelines, and the hideous Fashion and Styling.....
That aside.....If anything else that could discredit anything that is actually factual about this movie, the scene where she is supposedly VIDEOED having sex with those drug guys at the end before her Friend Sid comes in?????? What was that????? I have never ever read ANYWHERE that She was filmed getting screwed. And as for Andy being a blood sucker.....if you want, I can go thru names from the early '60's to the end of his life that can attest to how he used people. The best is Pat Hackett's book of all Andy's thoughts about his nights out in the late "70's and early "80's.
Bottom line.....I was shocked that Edie's Husband had anything to do with this movie. The only good thing is that it brings awareness to Edie's life and that She is kept alive thru this movie....the rest is just exploitation and those that were involved in the "stories", and said they were there, and contributed as Factual Consultants, should hang their heads in shame....because those of us that have followed Edie over the years, and read the many different books and articles know the real story.........

Those guys who are filming her I think are supposed to be John Palmer and Weisman. When they leave they say "Ciao", don't they?

Haha, i noticed that they said Ciao, too. I think they were implying that it was them because a lot of people think that they were taking advantage of Edie and disrespecting her. Personally, i think that they helped keep her alive and happy longer, they gave her something to do that was creative. A lot of the people she had known in the sixties never even talked to her once she went back to California.

I absolutely agree with you, babydoll, and I am grateful I am not alone in acknowledging the perseverence of David Weisman and John Palmer for giving Edie's life great meaning and allowing her the space and security to complete Ciao. I believe that the dismissive and completely misleading scene in Factory Girl mentioned above in this thread is highly unprofessional and purposefully insulting to David and John, a personal dig on the part of the makers of the 'biopic'. The kindness and care with which Edie was treated under very challenging circumstances and the fact that the film was completed, just as Edie wished, is a tremendous gift. I am only sorry that she did not live to see the Ciao herself. She would have been so proud of her accomplishment and it would never have happened if the three collaberators, Edie, David and John, hadn't worked extremely hard year after year despite Edie's illness.

Ok, i just watched the film and before i start i have to say that i didin't know who Edie was before the movie. Overall i loved the movie, and i think that Sienna was really good, except for the scene in the elevator were she said about andy being her friend (i thought the performance was kinda weak). But jesus! The decandence, the drugs, the nudity, oh my God! Poor girl, such a waste. I don't know the true story or anything about Edie, i just talk about the film as a film.

I thought that the acting was horrible throughout the whole movie except for Guy Pierce and a few scenes by Sienna. But mostly, it was just a bad script.

Factory Girl Scrambles Together for a Last-Minute Oscar Hope
29 December 2006

A while back, a few of the males on The Envelope's The Buzzmeter had placed Sienna Miller in their top five predictions for Best Actress. This came out of left field, to be sure, and was probably based more on wishful thinking than on any kind of real buzz. However, now that the movie was pulled for reshoots then put back in the Oscar race, Miller is getting some good notices, though it doesn't look like she can pull it off in such a short amount of time.

On the other hand, take a look at this review by Jeff Wells (who has, in all fairness, been beating the drum for this film for months now) -- it's entirely possible that the very hetero white males in the Academy will trip over the couch rushing to watch Miller bare all in certain sex scenes in the film. That alone could get her on ballots. Stranger things have happened.

As we always say here at Oscarwatch, never underestimate the power of a fine piece of tail. Beyond that, though, Miller will have to overcome her tabloid freak-outs, her association with Jude Law, etc. In other words, she is one whose private life overshadows her career and she'll have to do some work to get things back on track. Nonetheless, be that as it may, in addition to Wells, who writes, "Sienna Miller's performance as Edie Sedgwick ... is a deeply sad, near-perfect communing with the spirit of a proverbial damaged debutante," the Hollywood Reporter's Sheri Linden was also impressed by Miller and Guy Pearce:

Pearce, one of the most versatile of screen actors, is compelling and witty as the pallid Svengali, for whom society gossip seeps into even Catholic confession. His anxious, hungry gaze conveys envy, self-loathing and a childlike fascination with beauty. As the beauty who for a while captivated him beyond all others, Miller delivers a powerful performance, often baring all to give us Edie at her most candlelit exquisite as well as her most degraded. From the throaty laugh and old-money inflections to the extreme vulnerability, neediness and intelligence, she brings to life Sedgwick's legendary allure.

Well,I haven't seen this movie and I have decided on just skipping it all to gether. But,that scene mentioned-could it be because in one of the Warhol related books it says that Edie says that Chuck was always prying her with drugs and getting her to have sex on film. And another occasion[in one of the books]when someone was helping Edie by watching over her-some Warhol cling-ons busted into the room and stole all of her stuff?Maybe it's just a gathering of situations where Edie's supposed friends were actually violating her?Just showing it in one big dramatic way-and Chuck was the one who got Edie involved with making Ciao-maybe its just a sum up of peoples opinions about all of this.
-Don't know but none of what I've heard makes me eager to see this movie.

Little Tiny, they were for sure combining it all like you said which they usually do in bio pics because they can only fit so much in the short amount of time. However, the way they do it in this movie, if you had seen it, is really gross and inaccurate. I think that people will get the totally wrong idea. I remember Sienna saying at one point, "oh did you guys film me last night?" or something along those lines implying that she knew they were filming her which makes it seem like Edie was choosing to do p*rn or something. It's hard to interpret this film thought because i already know about Edie. But even knowing about Edie this movie still confused the hell out of me.

Oh! I thought the same thing but I didn't want to say anything! I kept wondering why Edie's husband helped with this movie. He was there for the Ciao! shoot and I don't remember him saying much about thinking those guys expolited her. Maybe time has changed his mind. There's a whole battle between two sets of people over Edie and who used her. There's the Factory Girl people who claim Palmer & Weisman expolited her for Ciao! Manhattan and then the Weisman people who deny this and only want to honor Edie's memory. I, personally, side with Weisman and his people. They weren't even around the Factory scene really. John Palmer worked with Andy on Empire and then I think he went his own way. Andy hated Weisman (he himself admitted this during the Ciao! commentary). It's all just a huge battle over who knew Edie the best I guess. I think that scene was uncalled for. Wonder if Wesiman saw the movie yet.:innocent:I think the idea of this movie was better than the actual finished result. I only say this because there's a ton of people out there that don't know Edie and will think this story is true. I do hope that Edie will win some new fans through this movie. Hopefully they'll do their research and find out the truth! She's amazing and should be remembered for what she contributed to pop culture.

On a side note, I can't believe that Nat Finkelstein was at the end of that movie talking about Edie. :shock:I have both his books (not bad but kinda out there) and he does not have a high opinion of Edie or anyone from the Factory era. There was footage of him on youtube not too long ago calling Edie a less than disparaging name (I won't repeat it!). I don't get the point him being involved in projects about her and making money off her but turning around and calling Weisman and Palmer bottom feeders for doing the same thing.

No Oscar nomination!!

With enormous pleasure, I am pleased to report that FG has received NO nominations for the 07 Oscars. You can see the entire list of nominees at oscarwatch.com.

Die, little snuff film, die! :yuk:

I personally think it was a very poor choice to try and rush the film so it could be up for oscar season... they should have spent more time on it and THEN waited for the next year. Well thats my opinion atleast.

I thought Sienna did a solid performance... Factory Girl was ok... I found myself not engaged at all and when I watched it in those clips it took me 3 days to watch it... I dont know that was just me though.

i think the guys in the movie that come into her apartment and film her are the ones she talks about in her last interviews... she says that there was a contract for a movie with some guys but they broke into her house and stole some things so then the contract was broken and she didnt make the movie with them
