Fashion Tragedies / Damage Control

You need my grandma, she's awesome at doing this!! Where I live at least a lot of dry cleaners have "we repair moth holes" signs in their windows. Look for a place like that....

the scene...
lounge/bar of a trendy downtown nyc hotel...
low lighting and low seating...
candles all around...

my friend and i are saving seats for a group of friends who all show up at once...all five of them...
so everyone jumps on the low couches and coats come off and get pushed around to make room for the group...
suddenly we smell something burning...
but can't see anything amiss....
then we keep smelling so we become more concerned and suddenly realize the source of the smell...

it is my down puffy jacket which got pushed onto a candle and now has a hole in the sleeve the size of a tennis ball with with feathers flying out of it...

......
another one bites the dust...
...

Poor coat soft! :(

New Years Eve....
Fully Loaded with Rose Wine...
Thick Black ice on the Streets of Newcastle...
Wearing shoes with 3 1/2" heels...
Come to a bridge with a camber and have to pull myself along the black ice...
Result:
A rip up the leather in my left shoe. *shakes fist*

i had just bought a new coat on sale at barney's the day before...
so maybe this is just the universe balancing itself out..
:D

**additionally....
i lost a hand stitched leather glove the week before and i was very sad...
:(

the day after the puffy coat incident...
i lost another leather glove w/a knot at the wrist......

but then...
lo and behold....i recovered the glove with the knot...!!
:bounce:...

woah...
talk about a roller coaster of emotions...
...

Aww soft not the leather gloves...I lost a pair recently and still haven't gotten over it :ninja: I can't find similar ones for love nor money.

^ I have found that since I got a very plain pair of brown leather gloves with cashmere lining, they have stuck to me like glue ;) "The good die young" :p

Caring for Your clothes/shoes

i just thought it mite be helpful if everyone could share their little tips on fixing little clothing misshaps. i know that
1- because i snagged my beautifulll fine knit cardigan on a belly chain,:( i stopped the entire thing from unravvelling by putting a small dab of clear nail polish on the spot, so it dries and hardens. This also works for laddered stockings
2- to get bubblegum off clothes put them in the freezer till it hardens, then peel it off.
3- to stretch shoes that might be too small, but you still really like, take them to a shoe repairs shop as they are able to apply heat to certain areas to stretch them a little. You can also use shoe trees which are a size bigger to gradually stretch your shoes.

I've used this trick on a sweater I snagged with a broken nail. :) As long as the coat of polish is light, the result is great.

2nd day of wearing a new pair of raw denim, sat in white paint  Lost a ton of indigo off the **** because of that, but they came out alright in the end, actually gave them a bit more character.

"rescuing" clothing items ruined by ditzy mistakes!

Sorry if the topic title is a bit odd- First, I'm looking on how to "fix" a clothing item..I know tailors deal with lengths, and there is even a "zipper hospital" around here that helps with damaged zippers- but is there any place to take a pair of pants that I left the iron on top of for too long (I was in the other room, dumb I know)? They are not denim, but 100% cotton and purple/champagne colored khaki type material, 100% cotton, "brentwood", by Paige Premium Denim .. The area where I left the iron is lighter colored (almost as if they had been bleached) than the rest of the pants, and I am pretty sure it is not just the folding (though I have not washed them yet to check). Arg, these are my favorite pair of pants- I bought them at Filene's Basement on sale too, and haven't seen them ANYWHERE else. *Any* advice on how to "restore" color, places/people to take the pants to, etc would be *greatly appreciated*.

Also please feel free to use this thread to share other stories of clothes you "damaged" due to silly mistakes, horror stories related to that, advice, etc.

I and some of my friends are victims of cigarette-burined coats and jackets. El help.

i bought a necklace and that day i got it stuck on a door handle tried to walk because i didn't realise and got pulled back resulting in said necklace snapping . there's been many paint accidents, mostly with bright blue paint. they were old jeans so its not so bad. don't even ask about the amount of umbrellas i've left in various places.

i'm a repeat victim of ciggy burns.
1# at a very hot club in hyatt hotel. i was in my mid 20s; wearing my latest pair of dkny blk hose. they were the most expensive hose then (erm. think mid 90s) and this lawyer friend acquaintance of mine mozies up next to me with his ciggy in his hand. while i'm chatting with him i feel a hot sensation at my thigh, then i realise there was a gaping hole in my stockings..

the same thing happened with a black bias-cut silk skirt.
the worse thing was both times, it was cigarette burn caused by close men friends.

the third incident occured at a pub. i was standing behind ny 6 ft tall male friend. it was crowded and we had one too many to drink. i knocked his hand (which was holding his ciggy) he lost his ciggy, it it flew into my b louse... i'm not kidding- it burned a hole in my bra. there was the smell of burning rubber... i guess from the material of the bra... and i have a small burn scar now.. right at my chest.

my sister and i once really wanted the same dress...to solve this problem we agreed that neither of us would buy it....however she secretly went back to the shop and bought it...the first time she washed it the colours ran...this is what i call fashion karma.

Same thing happened. My sis is a bit smaller than me so we decided to share and get the dress and we'd both be able to wear it.
First time we washed it, it shrunk. So she got to keep it. Thank God I'd worn it first!

well- first wash them and see how they look...
an iron should not usually make something look lighter...
so that is odd...

one option would be to get some dark blue dye and try dying them ...
good luck with that
:flower:

i hate a beautiful blue soft sweater, it fitted me perfectly. and the my little brother cut along the seam, when he was younger and going through his scissor obsession stage like little kids do. also i had the perfect pair of gloves and left the on the bus :(
