Fendi Spy Bag

i went through a bunch of her posts and all i could find was her pics of her spy collection, w/ the cognac in back (which are gorgeous)....hmmmm.oh well. thanks for your help guessgirl96 and ilovepositano

I received a spy bag and wonder if it is damaged. I need some help please. The part that has the metal on it that opens that you can put something very small in it on one side has a piece of metal sticking out and on the othere there is a hole and I can see a screw. Is this how they are all are is the part with the whole missing a piece. It is the part where the pocket is and below it that tiny spy compartment. Any help will be great. I do not know if I should return it.

Thanks so much!

bagqueen, I'm not sure exactly what you're describing, but it doesn't sound right. Could you post a pic?

aspen - do you condition or treat your cognac spy? I'm beginning to think that maybe conditioning the leather might lead to fading? Do you think the leather is already pretreated from Fendi and when we condition it, we take off the protective coating? Has anyone asked if leather is already treated?

I can handle the fading on the edges from normal use but I don't want fading spots throughout the bag.

Hi...my bag is fading...I've had it only a month...called Fendi...the SA said that it's going to happen to the congac color NO MATTER WHAT...he says that it's the nature of that color leather...Mine is ging back to NM on Monday...I'm just not into that "weathered" look:blush:

The conditioner did NOT do it to my bag.....it had 2 rub-off spots when I got it brand new. I know it was not a return because I got it with the plastic on the handles. The spots just got bigger after use.

I haven't used anything on my bag. I'm not sure why some cognac's are shiny and others not. Maybe a bag batch from Fendi??? My bag is really shiny, almost slippery feeling. I don't understand why the cognac would be different than other colors as far as fading. Don't they use the same leather and just color it?

For some reason my camera does terrible close ups. On the spy bag there is that compartment that opens that is very small. The part is hinged and is metal. On the side of the hinge is one metal part and the other is open. I will try to take some photo's. It is so hard to describe.

bagqueen, this sounds like the exact problem I had with my spy and it is most definitely a defect. the problem I had was with the braided dangling thing (the "secret" compartment) -- the screw that attaches it to the coin purse was loose (if you are looking at it from the front, the left side of the hinge should be solid metal and the right side shold have a screw). luckily, I wore the bag with the flap inside the bag so that when the dangly part fell off, it fell into the bag. I discovered that the screw was totally loose/stripped so if I put it back in, it would just fall out again. obviously, I returned it (and the SA was appropriately horrified).

one side of that hinge should be able to take a tiny screwdriver, while the other just has the smooth tip of the screw. My little flap/cap got loose twice - once I fixed it by tightening the screw; the second time my shoe guy fixed it (I have no idea how). It's a spy bag problem. I don't think it's just your bag.

Thanks for the information. It is the same problem. I will send it back. Sorry about your bag. Is this a quality thing?

I've heard the "flapping flap" problem is common (or I suppose, the flap coming off). But it sounds like your hinge has a screw in it that's a bit too short - you should be able to see the smooth end of the screw coming out, almost flush with the hole containing it, but not recessed back. Is it recessed back?

eta: my screw is now nice and tight, but the dang flap still opens up once in a while.

WTF? For the price these things cost, there sure are problems...the cognac color rubs off prematurely, and the secret compartment has an issue with screws coming loose.....for something that costs from $1700 and up, I'd expect better.

wait, we may be talking about two things. I'm talking about the little tiny flap/cap on the braided piece - there's a hinge THERE. I now realize lilygirl was talking about the hinge that attaches the braided piece to the purse!

I think this is the part that Boymom is referring to :flower:

I am just sitting here in shock reading about the apparent 'discolouration' of the cognac.

I have a cognac satchel and although I love it, I don't want it to fade. If all these posts were made one month ago, I could have bought the Chanel classic flap bag. I am kicking myself now.

Kiwi, I don't think people should be quite so quick to declare your (or anyone's) bag a fake, and I don't know for sure myself, but here is a photo of the braided piece in a real spy. You can see the workmanship in the stitching. Even the good fakes, the stitches going across are bigger and slightly crooked. I hope this helps. Maybe you can compare to yours. edited to add: pics from ebay (I was going to post a fake braided piece, too, but it's watermarked, so I'd be declaring the fake a fake... which I shouldn't do.)
