I think this is the part that Boymom is referring to :flower:

That is it. On the side of the hinge I have a hole with nothing in it. I can not beleive it. Thanks for sharing. I am returning it today.:p

I am just sitting here in shock reading about the apparent 'discolouration' of the cognac.

I have a cognac satchel and although I love it, I don't want it to fade. If all these posts were made one month ago, I could have bought the Chanel classic flap bag. I am kicking myself now.

i don't think yours will discolor as much. alot of the discoloration is due to the secret compartment rubbing against the front of the bag, which i don't think the satchel has. second, if it is a recent bag, you would have shinier leather that is less prone to distressing.

also, it is a hard thing to bring up unless a cognac owner complains about it, which no one was.

Bagqueen, no problem at all! :flower: If it's a hole with nothing on one side of the hinge, I believe the screw must have came loose & dropped off.

Oh, thanks for explaining! :flower:

Makes me feel so much better. :)

To all Spy Ladies: Just wanna share this, hope it's helpful :)

If Fendi hasn't tweaked the Spy hardware details since I got mine (Aug 2005), then there should be 3 screws on your Spy braided piece :

1st screw - This screw is for attaching the dangly braided piece to the coin purse.

2nd screw - This screw attaches the leather piece to the top of the dangly braided piece.

3rd screw - The one that Boymom & Bagqueen referring to..it holds the hinge for the cap of the "lipstick: compartment.

Ever since I got my Spy, I never had any problems with my dangly piece. I remembered after I read about LilyGirl's problem way up thread, I decided to have some kind of "protective measure". So what I'd do is every other month (or when I remember), I'd use 2 little screw drivers (courtesy from hubby) to tighten the 3 screws on my Spy.

If you love your Spy to death ( like me  ) & would be using the bag for years to come, it might be a good idea to do just that...:flower:

I'm one of the girls that returned my cognac. ilovepositano is exactly right.....my biggest area of problem was where the braid thingy hit the leather. It got bad!! Mine came from NM and I think it might have been an older leather one. The color doesn't seem the same as the color on the satchels.....just checked it out at Fendi the other night. I think yours will be fine!!! :flower:

i really find it rather amazing that such exspensive bags have so many "issues". i have a first generation stam and other girls who have the same bag as well as myself have problems with the kisslock popping open. they fixed it with the new bags, but now there are gaps on the frames. also, the little metal thing that the chain attatches to had a stupid weight distribution issue, that actually surprised me as a ignorant lack of enginering and design. and now i started reading this thread. although i really like the distressed look on the cognac, im surprised this was happening. did fendi give you any sort of card to let you know that the leather was going to do this?? and does it happen on the dark brown one as well? very intriguing!!

The bag does come with a card that says it will fade and get streaks, BUT the one I returned was spotted and blotchy....looked like a rash. Gosh, I wish I had pics! I could live with some wear, but this didn't look good and I don't think anyone would be happy with what it did for the price. It looked very similar to one that just sold on eBay, so I'm convinced that mine wasn't the only one out there. I just got the dark brown and even Fendi told me that it won't age like the cognac does. They had no problem admitting to me that the cognac definitely distresses....sometimes badly.

So sorry to hear about your stam, too. I agree with you.....it's irritating when you pay the high price!

yah, thats what gets me! you'd think since so many consmers are paying thousands for a handbag, then they should at least be able to stand by their product....i mean, i know many people have issues with LV's (for example) and their prices, because they have so little leather (from the monogram line) but they ARE very good quality, and i dont think have as many design flaws or anything as fendi and marc jacobs and chloe, with the hardware chipping factor....

^ I agree, I dont know why they can't fix these problems, they seem to be such simple things to fix. Maybe they did fix the leather fading though, with the newer shinier leather.

Theres also balenciaga with their yucky new leather, but I've heard that they are bringing back the thick soft leather :D

For those interested, Fendi Singapore in both the stores in Ngee Ann City and Isetan, have White Fendi Spys available. There's also the new Spring Summer multi-coloured Zucca on black canvas/plastic type material available.

Have also seen in the Spy lookbook in Singapore, a white/blue stripe Wisteria Spy, which has yet to be mentioned or seen in the KL lookbook. In the photos the white/blue stripes appear to be similar to the denim/seersucker material but upon closer inspection and of the price (which is higher than the one-colour Wisteria), the white/blue stripes are on leather. This white/blue Wisteria has white flowers. Hence, the Wisteria will come in 3 colours i.e. Honey, White and blue/white stripes with white flowers.

The Fendi store in South Coast Plaza, Costa Mesa (California) have a bunch of spy bags as of today:

spy bags: denim, hologram, white, brown
spy hobos: black, brown, petrol
spy satchels: white, cognac, petrol

Does anyone here have the petrol spy or satchel? I'm considering getting the petrol satchel but I'm afraid that the color might fade later. Has anyone's petrol fade yet? I also saw the white satchel and that one is to die for! It's so beautiful and pure white but I would be so afraid to use it because it might get dirty fast.

I am curious about the petrol as well. I am flying to LA next week and hope to check out one at the Fendi store in SCP.

Leona: Did you see petrol satchel in person?

Fendi DFS Singapore on Scotts Rd. had 2 Honey and 1 White Spy available one day ago.

The Honey colour looks so much more attractive IRL!!

I'm glad to hear the honey color looks better in real life. :) I'm thinking about getting one but was afraid it would be way too bright orange and scary. Do you think it will go well with a lot of colors? ...I'm still waiting to hear back from a seller on ebay about a honey spy I bidded on. Another ebayer won it but apparently hasn't replied to her emails yet. *crosses fingers* :)

Leona,

I have the Petrol Hobo (Keya, I still need to post pics...sorry for the delay!) and it is fading on the side that faces my body. However, when I apply AG onto the faded sections the original color returns. Hope this helps!
