great corean film:
bin-jip by kim ki-duk.
i film that really surprised me, i did not expect such an extraordinary movie.
if someone wants to watch this film but does not like to know parts of the plot in advance, don't read on. i'm not good at film reviews anyway.
it's the story about a young man who survives by breaking into empty houses. there, it seems, he not only seeks food and shelter, but tasting the life the others usually live, he looks through the owner's belonging, takes care of their plants and so on. in return he cleans the house or does some maintencance jobs before leaving the house the next day.
one day he enters a house, that is not momentarily vacant like he assumed, instead he finds a reclusive woman, she is married to an abusive husband who is currently away on business and left her scared and intimidated. they very slowly befriend each other, never speaking a word with each other. after the husband's return, she runs away with the squatter (who punished the husband by hitting him with his golfballs) sharing his life in complete silence and falling in love with him. of course, the revenge-seeking husband and the ugly noisy world is still out there
the story is told so masterly, using some wonderful metaphors for the growing love and the perfect balance between the two lovers, and even surprising the viewer with some funny moments. the film is shot beautifully and has an elegance and lightness to it, i haven't seen often yet.
i do really recommend it.
