It was recently announced that LVMH has renewed John Galliano's contract at Dior for another (IIRC?) four years.

It seems John is one of the few who is happy with LVMH. This was controversial as many suggested his contract would not be renewed-although, it may seem unfathomable at times, he did successfully restore Dior to profitability (even the couture).

So, suggestions- who would you liked to have seen at Dior, if John had exited?

Ann Demeulemeester?- for no other reason than, just to shake things up a little?
JPG? He begged LVMH for the helm twice. Both times, NO!
McQueen? (not likely given the politics, but I am thinking talent and style, not PR)
Nicholas Ghesquiere?
Oliver Theyskins?
You?

I think Olivier Theyskens, Nicholas Ghesquiere and Alexander McQueen would all bring Dior back some of the elegance it was once renowned for. In the boutique yesterday, though, I saw monogrammed pink trainers in the style of Reebok Classics...eew

Well that article is almost a year old and it was a three-year contract, not a four-year. Which means that his contract wasn't recently renewed but rather that he only has two years left before his contract comes up again for consideration. Unless there's a different story floating around, your original post is inaccurate and misleading.

It seems my original post was poorly worded, as no official confirmation on John Galliano's renewal has been announced by LVMH.

It should have said that I was speculating, not actually confirming that his contract will be renewed. I, of course, am not privvy to that kind of confidential information. I apologize to those who I misled by my words, and by the dated article. It seems I need a better organization system for the articles I keep on my desktop.

His contract indeed expires circa December 2005:

Either way, the post was about who would make a suitable- or at least interesting- replacement at Dior, should things turn out otherwise.

You all are free to offer your opinion- Galliano or otherwise.

There is no way LVMH would let Galliano go. Perhaps if they're interested in letting Dior slip back into the pits of Fashion. Dior is a cashcow, Galliano makes his madness desireable, no one has yet to do that as well as he has. I was shocked at how many people knew about the Dior "Freak-Shows" mainly the makeup, but that still makes it...We've already discussed the impact of the runway shows on the sales.

If Arnault has a clue he will give Galliano whatever he wants, because Galliano doesnt need Dior, with Galliano Homme a smash hit.

Dior would do well keeping Galliano. McQueen could put the oomph back into Versace (his SS06 collection was to me rather Versace - what it should be like). Nicholas Ghersquiere...hmmm....I think he should stay at Balenciaga because that's apparently a work place that inspires him to do great things.

Well,
thanks to Galliano a lot of people NOW Love Dior (well, hate it too)
I cant imagine other designer in Dior
Well the ONLY label I love is Dior and Galliano own label
and sincerelly I dont like any other designer...
I dont know, Dior by Galliano, is everything I dreamt when I was a child
all these fantasies, all these feelings, all these concepts, all
these inspiration
It is just like fashion should be
not just clean and nice clothes (my own opinion)
Galliano makes the difference and I love it
Galliano leads it so Good!!!!

LVMH and the whole world knows that what Galliano did for Dior was the best thing any fashion house could ever hope for. of course they d renew his contract because it s simply a perfect fit. he does an amazing job and people can critisize him as much as they want but it s obvious that he s extremelly talented and a genius with the most unique view fashion has ever seen. he s just irreplacable.
