Gap F/W 08.09 NYC

I was pleasantly surprised when i first saw this on style.com. I agree some of the layering/styling is a bit much, but I like some of the pieces and some of the styling. They had to do something before the company slipped further, and I think this is going in the right direction, along with the Pierre Hardy collab.

I think this is pretty awesome for the Gap. I love almost all of the women's. Sadly, the menswear is still not good enough...

I think it's dull. There are, though, some outstanding pieces but other than that, not much to really covet and consider.

i kind of agree. idk for me its like they can never find a balance. its either too fashion foward, or not fashion forward enough. too much color or not enough color. and while the fashion folks might like this, i dont think that gap's core customer will care too much for it. awsome grey leather jacket tho.

i agree about the styling tho. very APC. but i thought fashion was moving out of the hobo slouchy phase and into something a little more structured

I think people have astronomic expectations. This is GAP. All the pieces are probably 1/10 the price of what designer clothing cost. So why do people expect them to show EVERYTHING from the trendy to basics to colour to quality to innovation?

Personally I quite like this collection, but because I'm petite, I won't be able to wear their pieces like how they were put together at the presentation. If you take each look apart, the pieces are actually pretty basic... I like the sweater dress form the last look. Very feminine but still basic.

i think the strongest pieces are the shearlings...

*not really digging those chunky monkey shoes...:ninja:...

*yawn* The Gap blows. I only shop there when there's a sale... actually even then I rarely walk out with anything! :yuk:

i agree with the APC comparison...

am i the only one who sees the direct ISABEL MARANT knock offs...?!?

...

the beige wool miniskirt is an exact copy of one that i have from IM...
and that plaid drop waist dress is a Marant silhouette as well...

for an ALL AMERICAN brand...
they are definitely borrowing some decidedly FRENCH style..

:p

happier seeing this than the H&M :) agree --love the styling with the cropped trousers ..

wow this is exactly as mentioned above. apc meets IM. very french styling.....

kinda weird, but i like it.

some nice outerwear pieces that i would totally buy if the quality was good.

This is a bad thing?
\

hmm...i just think it's rather surprising and disappointing...
you would think that since they hired this high fashion 'designer' ,patrick robinson...
that he would actually DESIGN something or at least encourage the team to do so...
rather than just run around doing knock offs...

..........

:innocent:
