Gareth Pugh S/S 2014 Paris

Yuck, I find this super lame :ermm: He's getting less and less interesting every season.

Disappointing, the collection just doesn't bring anything new. He recycled silhouettes and fabrics that he used used in past past collections, and instead and putting in a new way, he just used as it is. No excitement whatsoever.

You know what really caught my eye the most? His 'Some people are gay, get over it' t-shirt. Surely the best item here.

^ His t-shirt is really cute.

The collection is "glamourous techno," very much in keeping with his usual work, only it seems more "Hollywood" and less gothic to me somehow.

Some of these gowns have an almost 30s or 40s old Hollywood feel, like Galiano might've done back in the day, only there is still the "futurist" Pugh signature on them.

I like some of this to be honest. It seems that there is some movement in his work, in that he is doing more drape and bias cut etc...

I actually thought those hats where the only thing I actually liked about the collection.

there's definitely something to his aesthetic that reminds me of rick owens a little too much, but he tries to stay on his own track. this collection is again really hard to translate to real life, i.e clothes for women, but I guess some of what he has done have ended up in museums and what not. I don't particularly like the colors in this collection, the baby-blue is very difficult for example. feathers don't work. the shiny plastic fabrics look really rigid and non-comfortable wearing.

I swear that I´ve seen those bias-satin dresses + feather hats back in the 90s, when John Galliano was all the rage.
Some looks looked poorly made; and the fitting was strange in some of them as well.
And yes, the only interesting thing was the t-shirt Gareth wore at the end of the show.

i was disappointed when i first saw it, but now i have to say that i do like some of the pieces a lot. not sure about the blue, not sure about the feathers, but some of the drapings and silhouettes are gorgeous, and i somehow feel that he evolves as a designer, even though it might be the wrong direction for my taste (and many tfs people's taste). i mean, if he had sticked to a more gothic feel for this collection again, the comments would have been 'lame, same old same old, repetitive, he needs to come up with some new visions'.
i think, although i don't particularly like this aspect of the collection, it is a LOT more wearable than previous collections.

It's repetition but still totally in love with it.

I agree!

I mean looks 2 and 4 even have echoes of Haider Ackermann. I could really see someone like Tilda Swinton wearing those looks - and others - to great effect.

I see some repetition, but some evolution, some willingness to break out of his comfort zone.

But I guess we're in the minority...

I feel like he doesn't have anything new to say at this point: the same recycled silhoulettes, the same Rick Owens's influences, the same alyen inspired makeup. It all feels very dated and done to death.
