Gift Ideas for Guys

a pair of converse or vans should do the trick.
not too expensive and i'm sure he'd get plenty use out of them.

and then maybe you can get the same pair for yourself and you guys can like match and stuff:heart:

o.k. omit that last part, but yeah, converse!!!

so valentines day is coming up.. and also my boyfriends birthday. i am completely lost, i have no idea what to get him. i usually get him a shirt every year, but lets face it, that has gotten a little boring.

what are you getting your boyfriends? and to all the guys, what would you want?

(i believe there is a similiar thread, but i couldnt find it)

Well, I'm single as of now so I'm one of those who doesn't really do anything for Valentine's. I never really have anyways, I always felt why limit to one day to show appreciation to your loved on when you could do it every day ^_^
But I always get my father and my brother something in appreciation and token of love for them.
In the past I've gotten them:
- a silk tie (esp. Ralph Lauren)
- a pair of nice, sleek loafers in leather
- something electronic like an electric shaver or something
- cologne definitely wins them over. I love the Givenchy Pour Homme, Aqcua di Gio, and Dolce&Gabbana The One.
- usually a night out to dinner at a high end restaurant treats them well, here I love taking them to Mimi's, Bravo!, or PF Changs.

Try one these tokens of love! :flower:

I'm planning to bake a heart-shaped layer cake. But I wonder if that's special enough.

But I'm open to ideas, so this thread will be useful.

Some presents i got from my ex-girlfriend and enjoyed  :
- a watch
- a fragrance
- a bracelet
- a shirt
- a cashmere scarf
- a coffee-table book

Voilà, hope it helps :D

hmmm in my opinion, you can never go wrong with a watch, perfume, a book or a wallet. ;)

i'm always stuck buying clothes for my bf as he never cares about that stuff and I do... :D perfume is good... cd's, video games, dvds that he likes...
This Valentines day we're not exchanging gifts (financial crisis! lol), just gonna enjoy a nice dinner and a movie :)

fragrances are tricky. i received Dark Blue by Hugo Boss as a present and, well, i'm not a huge fan of it. unless you REALLY know what that guy likes in fragrances, don't do it. especially if he's picky bout that kinda stuff.

if he's a fragrance noob.... you can try!

My friend's birthday is coming up next month and I have absolutely no idea of what to send him (he lives in Argentina). I've thought really hard about it and still.. nothing!.
He's a good friend but we almost have zero tastes in common.
I've thought of sending him a book in English (since they're hard to come by where he lives and I think he'd enjoy it) but again, I'm not sure which one.. he's studying law, and he's a bit radical in his political views, we never agreed on anything and every time I went through his books selection I'd lose interest so that could be reciprocal, he's also very into traveling, often the wild kind (say, 3 months wandering around the jungle )..
Gadgets are out of the question as I'm afraid they'll get lost when they reach the customs.
Clothing is also a no-no because he's not interested and he has a very jealous girlfriend, it took her a while to warm up to me so I wouldn't want her to take things the wrong way now that we've come this far.

I keep thinking of books but he's on his final year of Uni so I don't think he'll have that much time for it. I also thought of some nice book of photographs.. but photographs of what?!.. I've thought of regional stuff but truth is, I'm not patriotic and I find these souvenir type of gifts to be very corny.

*eta: he likes games. and I know nothing about games. maybe someone could help me there.

Any help?!

games...what do you mean by games.
video games
board games...?

books:
i suggest Julio Cortázar - Rayuela
no proud argentine should be without a copy (in Spanish!!!!)

world cup season is in full swing. maybe a brand new jersey so he can root for his country. ARGENTINA!!! #10 please.

for the traveler side: a duffel bag or back pack for that matter.
whether traveling to Patagonia or the Amazon, a back pack comes in handy.:flower:

video games, yeah. but let's forget that, too complicated.. I like to know what I'm giving lol.

his parents' living room is PACKED with Cortázar plus the entire family knows so much about Argentinean literature and they're really proud about it, imagine the giggles if some foreigner sends him an Argentinean classic!. I'm not going in there..

He already has a football tshirt, I saw some pictures of him wearing it the other day and the WC will probably be over by the time my package arrives.
This looks like I'm making it harder on purpose but I swear I'm not: he has his 'lucky' backpack, which he takes for all his travels and won't change/let anyone borrow.

Thanks for the suggestions though.
*sighs* this guy is just hard.. I'm serious. I've been thinking about this for months. I thought I'd figure it out eventually but nah.. keeps getting harder. or maybe I'm overthinking. -_-

^is he a bit of a film buff, perhaps? you could probably try and maybe some film memorabilia or film posters? just a thought. ;)

^
give him some shoes? soccer shoes or a watch maybe?
Guys like technology and are better at follwing the tech trends than fashion trends, so maybe an ipod or a cellphone?

^I'd love to send him either some nice speakers or an ipod touch but I'm scared it won't make it through the customs so I'm not taking risks. Plus I wouldn't want to come off as such a show-off you know. :ninja:

He watches a lot of movies, Scott, that doesn't sound like a bad idea.. :shifty:.. I don't know exactly what kind he prefers but.. he spent a lot of time wandering around the Balkans and Cuba.. maybe he'd appreciate some set by Kusturica? or is that too pretentious?.. I've grown to detest him myself .

how about a leather bound journal? Everyone can appreciate and utilize some personal reflection :)
Either one that has all blank pages, or one that has a "thought/quote of the day" on one side and blank on the other.
