Harper's Bazaar August 2007 : Jessica Simpson

she makes those gowns look more like prom dresses. i dont think she has a very high fashion look. and i agree with what a lot of people have said that this issue would have been a great time to have a model on the cover or even an actress who isnt the typical bunch you see on the cover of a lot of magazines of late (claire danes might have been a good choice)

as far as the cover goes, its a nice use of colour, but i would have liked again to see someone else because while she looks pretty its not anything special in my opinion.

it looks like an older magazine cover, something from the eighties or nineties maybe

holy mouth!
i agree that bazaar has been all about the eds recently, which makes the disappointing covers even more of a disappointment...

the anne hathaway cover last month was great and very unexpected...
then they go back to this crap...

even if they do celebrity covers, they could at least pick interesting celebs...
i can name 4-5 off the top of my head who have movies, etc. to promote that i would love to see on the cover...

I really don't think Jessica is pretty, she's like Pam Anderson, she may have been attractive when she was young but now she seems to have been baked under the sun for far too log. The cover really doesn't dissappoint me very much, since it was to be expected after Lohan, Britney, Mischa, and Paris and Nicole. Glenda seems to have figured out that these airheads sell copies and while the sight of Lohan at first made me vomit, being a subcriber has also made me notice that the strong push for newstand sales has also had a positive impact editorially. Bazaar seems to have alot more meat on it's bones than years past when it was almost anemic. With that being said I totally agree with Tigerrouge about a model opportunity being missed. Glenda should be smart enough to jump on the tide, which seems to be changing in models favor(finger's crossed) instead of being left seen as a magazine still recycling the same boring celebs from 2003. If we did not live in the celeb obscessed world we do or if this was still circa 1995 someone like Simpson would be seen as a total has been. W gets it right, their going for the same cheap audience but in a very current, modern way. I also agree with whoever said the cover looks straight outta the nineties. Almost like a certain Cindy C. Vogue cover if I remember correctly?

From JustJared.com:

Jessica Simpson tells the world “MY BOOBS ARE REAL” in the August 2007 issue of Harper’s Bazaar. Designer pal Michael Kors sits with Jessica, who turned 27 on Tuesday, and reveals

On plastic surgery: “I’ve had none. But maybe after having kids, if my boobs dropped down to my bellybutton, I would get them lifted. But you know, my boobs are real.”

On a fellow Texan helping her with acting: “Willie Nelson taught me an amazing thing on (2005’s) The Dukes of Hazzard: He memorizes his lines by writing them as a song, and they become a melody to him. I’ve been wanting to do a country record because it’s just my roots; it’s my soul. I aspire to be like Patsy Cline. Willie actually turned me on to her because he used to be one of her background singers.”

On her preference of singing or acting: “In my music career, there have been moments of failure, and with acting, I haven’t had that yet. But music is opening up my heart and every emotion inside of me.”

On her on-again, off-again boyfriend John Mayer: “I love his Continuum record. There’s your answer.”

First Paris and now Jessica :yuk::yuk::yuk:

I love US Harpers but with crap like these two on the cover I just want to cancel my subscription.

I hate how Harpers doesn't have a letters page where we can express our disgust.

Cover was not too bad, but then I actually wanted to see more of the balloons. Not those balloons.

The concept is nice, but what the hell is going on in her face around her mouth :ninja:

seanutbutter : There are no words.

:lol::lol::lol: that was funny!!!
The cover ISN'T!!! Seriously is it so difficult to make a good cover??? Im not expecting something genius. But for the love of god :censored:........ I think glenda needs to go!!(wasnt she already planning on leaving HB)
Lets send a :censored: letter to HB and tell them that putting empty shells on the covers is not the way to go!! Only JS can turn a valentino dress into a walmart promdress

It's Versace, but you make a good point.

I think Jessica's appeal - and physique - means that she can only be presented in this way, as a happy cheerleader with a hint of p*rn star. There's isn't much chance of a successful make-over, so considering that, the cover isn't too bad. Bad enough, but not a total atrocity. I like the colours - they've tried to create a happy cover.

I think it's a very good point that Bazaar could still stick with using actresses, but instead feature the up-and-coming ones. Then there'd be a buzz about seeing them on the cover.
