Health Food Beginner

does anyone have any health food detox suggestions? i don't know if that makes any sense of if it is allowed to be posted here, although it is not a weight related question nor a diet related question.

i really want to get myself into the habit of doing monthly detoxification simply because it's healthy for the body and skin, not as a diet technique or anything like that. so, does anyone have any healthy detox tips, or healthy foods that should be eaten during detox time?

are you in the vicinity or walk by a Elixir [juice bar]?
they have lists one being for detoxification and what veggies and fruits it consists for juicing.

the water thing is really interesting, my mums friend - who is actually a beautician and looks amazing for 70- claims that you shouldnt drink and eat at the same time... it sounds weird but things like water/alcohol/juice all spoil the nutrients and vitams from the food or something along those lines.

since i was little, my parents have always told me not to drink and eat because it makes your tummy bloat. but they always said it with a mocking tone, so i doubt it's true :p

one of my friend (who comes from a whole family of doctors...) advised me not to drink half an hour before and after a meal because of the nutrients reason.

Are we talking alcoholic beverages or anything liquid in general?

Oups, I should have been more specific! It was in reference to liquids in general.

Hmmm, why would drinking a lot of water before a meal be bad?
I know I use it to keep from overeating.

Afterwards, what harm does it cause?
Care to elaborate? :flower:

It takes time for your body to digest the food and "suck out" the nutrients, so I guess drinking right after eating would "flush out" a big part of the nutrients.

The before part, i honestly have no idea what's wrong with it! I too drink before a meal to keep from overeating...I also drink when i eat, though not a huge amount. I was just sharing what I heard! :D

Ahh, I think the drinking of water after a meal makes good sense. Sort of like when you're drunk, you drink water to pee it all out. ^_^

I believe you, miss. :flower:

^ from what i've been told, drinking when you eat is bad because water dilutes your stomach acids and can cause malabsorption of nutrients.

I tried the hot water thing yesterday morning. I somehow had the feeling it worked. I was less hungry the whole day somehow. could have been because of the hot weather too...

Did anybody try the apple cider vinegar shots? I read it in Glamour magazine, apparently Fergie does two shots to "kill the fats"..

mmm hummus
for those of you who are vegetarians it might be good to know that hummus with whole wheat bread ( or my favourite, pumpernickel) is a complete protein (all essential amino acids in tact :flower:)

i think a lot of fruit is quite sweet
although it's natural it's still a sugar
and i've read about some persons who go through "mania" living on a diet w/ lots of fruit

personally i recently switched to granny smith after many weeks eating gala or pink lady apples. i was starting to think they were genetically modified because they were so quaintly small (almost bite-size) and were candy sweet like
