Health Food Beginner

thanks! but do you think it's as healthy, normally frozen food tend to lose all the vitamins..at the moment frozen is better than nothing :)

I thought frozen food preserved a lot of the goodness..? As long as its snap frozen from the moment of picking.

^ Yes, you're right misssakura, frozen is a great option for fruits and vegetables. It very well preserves the "goodness" :)

I don't see the point of drinking skim milk or reduced fat. If you want to drink breast milk then you either take it as it is or create a substitute that doesn't involve the mistreatment of a cow and its calf. If you're going to make it not taste like milk then why bother? (I think low fat milk is disgusting, it just tastes like slightly sour water)

i think what kind of milk you like just depends on what you've been drinking for awhile. my family has always had skim milk and whole milk tastes absolutely disgusting to me.

That wasn't really what I'm saying. If you find whole normal natural milk disgusting then what's the point of drinking milk at all? There are other options like nut and rice milks which are tastier than watery skim milk. I dunno it just seems like a waste of resources to breed a cow for skim milk.

Well, I assume they aren't throwing the fat away but making butter or something else with it?

I agree that skim milk isn't worth drinking. I drink (local organic or all-natural) 2% because of the calories, but for maximum nutritional value (milk includes fat-soluble nutrients), it should be drunk as is. I quit drinking milk altogether for awhile when I decided I couldn't ingest the weird hormones anymore & I couldn't find an organic brand I liked the taste of (super pasteurization, then anyway, was a real taste killer). I would like to buy raw milk, but unfortunately I don't have the time to indulge that sort of inclination ... perhaps when I retire or semi-retire (or at least get rid of my god-awful commute) I can do that ...

Organic Butter, whats the taste like. Is it close to butter?
Im moved my milk to organic and I am taking baby steps. :)

i can't find the article i read a little while ago about the 5 or so items that are most worth buying organic. anyone know?

i remember that potatoes were at the top of the list. and milk.

Basically any produce that you bite into rather than peel is worth buying organic. For example, you should eat organic strawberries, apples, grapes, and lettuce. It is OK not to buy organic bananas and papaya because the peel is more protective and you do not eat it.

^that's a great tip :)

Also, one could make organic butter themselves.. using organic milk ^_^ It's kind of fun I suppose

I am really trying to eat healthy but its so hard!!! this thread is very helpful.... Has anyone else found that things like Sushi and its quality of ingridients?? ITs not like a go to a dodgy place but i just wonder...

I don't think once or twice a week is too much of a problem anyway. Sushi is teeny tiny. You can ask them where they source their fish though.

THanks Im going to ask, it worries me because I eat it so often. Can I also ask, a bit off topic but does anyone know if white or green tea is better?

^ I was not sure if one if necessarily better than the other, but I did know they have different health benefits. I decided to do some internet surfing and found this:

People who have tried both note that white tea lacks the “grassy” aftertaste so often associated with green tea. Furthermore, studies indicate that white tea is better for you. Leaving tea leaves so close to their natural state means that white tea contains more polyphenols, the powerful anti-oxidant that fights and kills cancer-causing cells, than any other type of tea.

I guess white tea is healthier, but green tea is known to have a thermogenic effect and slightly helps to burn calories. :flower:

I have lost about 1 kg since NYE by NOT eating take-out and sugar all the time. I eat pita with tuna and cucumber instead. And apples and carrots when I crave sugar. I haven't even been outside because it's snowing

^ It is much harder to eat junk food when you can't go out and buy it!
