Hedi Slimane - Designer

Omg i'm going to begin saying "Saint Laurent" around other people and their going to be like "you mean YVES Saint Laurent, right?" Then i'll be like stfu you noob :ninja:

Marc Atlan is the perfect man for the job!! He did such great work for Helmut Lang and Comme!

^ Well, he also helped Tom Ford reshape the YSL at the time and the cooperation continued through all these years as well, so I wouldn't be surprised, this exudes his signature though I'm still not sure.
Anyways, he's kind of always the perfect man for the job. Almost unmistakable in my eyes.

I feel he's running before he can walk...
YSL Couture?

HEDI SLIMANE has revealed that Yves Saint Laurent could return to the world of couture under his creative directorship.

"Haute couture is a legitimate subject for Yves Saint Laurent and could resume one day," Slimane said in an interview with Vogue Paris, WWD reports. Although he added that the label's return to couture not his primary concern: "The priority today is to revamp and redeploy the luxury ready-to-wear."

The designer - who is rumoured to be in New York this week shooting his first campaign for the renamed Saint Laurent Paris - also put paid to years of rumours that he was waiting in the wings to replace former creative director Stefano Pilati, revealing that his first contact with YSL chief executive officer Paul Deneve was in November 2011.

Pilati left in February this year and Slimane was appointed in March.

Well there 2 things I like about this so far;

1. He is interested in doing couture, however it is not his priority at this time.
2. He is shooting the F/W 12.13 ad campaign.

Although i'm not sure why he JUST started shooting the campaign (when was this article released?) but hopefully it gives us a good idea of what is to come.

Agree that the new logo is actually the old one.

As far as haute couture goes, it would explain why they chose to go back to the old Rive Gauche feel, to reserve the full Yves St. Laurent name for a future couture collection.

no, it's not the same typography, but you can still have the thought it resembles the original one. but I can say it's always Helvetica Hedi will only use where he stays.

Yves Saint Laurent, recently changed to Saint Laurent Paris, could soon be featuring as part of the Parisian Haute Couture week calendar: the news comes directly from the new creative director of the maison, Hedi Slimane, who said during an interview: "Haute Couture is a legitimate subject for Yves Saint Laurent and could resume one day. But the priority today is to revamp and redeploy the luxury ready-to-wear".

The designer who debuted in womenswear with the Resort 2013 collection will present the prêt-à-porter line in Paris next October. The last YSL haute couture collection dates back to 2002, the same year marking the retirement of the great couturier.

hedi's work for dior homme was often praised as couture quality. the craftsmanship on some of those garments was astonishing, particularly the embellishments. i remember examining the "love wound" shirt which was a hand beaded blood splatter and being amazed by the intricate details.

i think he'll do just fine!

While I'm not thrilled with how Slimane is definitively stamping his own imprint on the House, I am looking forward to the rivalry between Raf Simons at Dior and Slimane at YSL which could yield rather exciting collections in Paris, almost like the KL and YSL rivalry revisited!

that's just a detail. doing couture is so much more than embellishment... I'm not saying he's not up for it but its a huge job. \\

some of the dior homme garments, as I remember them had poor quality.

i'm sure he's not going to be producing the actual garments, rather just designing them, which i'm sure he's fully capable of.

in any case, couture back at ysl would be a step forward not just for the house, but for the world of couture in general.
