agreed. some of these old couture houses are turning into something entirely different than what the houses' namesake once had in mind... I wouldn't mind people like Hedi Slimane doing menswear, but what for what reason under the Chanel rooftop? Just to get the clothing a couture-like context?

It's somewhat questionable that people only relate the old houses with the couture craft...it's also obscure how we will probably still remember these old houses in 50 years time, thanks to lucrative licensing and PR, whereas contemporary designers will probably fade into the nothingness...

well.. i suppose hedi could do very well just with his mainline but somehow i thought the finish of the clothes(and some other subtle detail) when done at chanel can be exploited in a very good way..or am i wrong tricot?...are they really that good at chanel? id like to be proved wrong.. because of what i hear, which is always superb quality(esp the couture garments) -- well they better be if they demand whats on the pricetag...

nonetheless..im sure things will work out just the way theyre meant to be..at the moment i think some change at DH may be worthwhile provided they hire a talented designer... but somehow Van Assche doesnt impress me..at all!:innocent:

Maybe we'd have to see Puma for Hedi Slimane, H-3 (Hedi Adidas), or "H" by Hedi diffusion line produced by Ittierre.
 Haha oh man, that would be quite a sight to say the least.
But if that's what it takes for Hedi to be able to have his own line, unadulterated and as he wants, well, why not.. :innocent:

As long as he is under a luxury conglomerate's rooftop, production shouldn't be too much of a problem... he does have the financial power and authority that are necessary to start a business on your own... a lot of balenciaga, mcqueen and gucci is made in the same italian factories... probably except from some really complicated couture pieces... but they are never to be found in the shops, anyway.

Rigorous quality control and precise communication with the manufacturing partner are key when it comes to good production standards... with somebody as Hedi who is just fanatic about the fit of his clothes, I can't imagine them not being on the highest standard. People might disagree with me on that point, but the decline of quality in some pieces at Dior are not due to Hedi.

I already saw two nice shirts and a pair of pants hanging in Bruno's atelier last week... from what I can tell, beautiful, subtle detailing and a razor-sharp cut! Hopefully they'll make it in my size as well...!

As far as Nicolas Andreas is concerned, he had been with Hedi since the very beginning of Dior Homme and quit right after Strip to pursue a career on his own... his first collection had been shown in F/W 2004 as a film presentation... so no catwalk images.

Are you certain Hedi will design mens/womens wear right away for dior / another house / his own label ? Seems he's having alot of fingers put into pretty much everything regarding design and artwork. Maybe he's taking year off or something to concentrate on his art (not clothing that is) I don't know. Who's taking the FW07 collection for dior on catwalk this summer? hedi?

I agree with you. I've said it all along. Pieters menswear sounds exciting!!! Do tell more!

unfortunately there's not much more to tell about the menswear at this point... it's basically been explained as just a small capsule, I am pretty sure he won't be using those tiny fabric-covered buttons in the menswear like he does with the womens'...

knowing bruno and his assistant's personal style, I am 99% sure it will be sartorial with a casual twist. bruno had been a really good customer at dior homme himself for years and he pulls it off really nicely with a casual edge, even if he waers smoking or a jacket with tails... I really just hope that the quality will be good!

^you must've went to his anniversary party, yes? I saw that picture of him dancing(rather timidly by the looks of it )on prettypretty. But he was wearing a great, kind of sparkly jacket with tails paired with black jeans.

As for the collection,I hope it's not going to be too simple. I would love if if contained the same spirit of his womenswear-and I wouldn't mind covered buttons at all!

if they let him go i dont think dior homme will be as successful as it has been in the past few years. its his contribution that has made dior homme what it is now. more and more people have fallen in love with his designs each year and the crowd seems to get younger and younger.. on their financial report it was stated that dior homme has been a success and gained their profit quite a bit. so why would they be stupid and let him go? i just cant see this happening. no way. :(

Who ever will take over over a post Dior Homme by Hedi Slimane, whether it be Martijn Bal, Kris van Asche known to be his ex assistants, I believe it will defenitely be an interesting change for fashion. At the moment there is not really a star mens designer out there who would fit the Dior Homme heritage, other then raf simons. However, he is now under contract with Jil Sander. I believe it will open an oportunity for a new generation designers to come out and show what they have to say. There must be enough hidden talent out there, that is desperate to get the opportunity of designing for a house like Dior. People like Kris or Martijn are in my opinion two designers that have potential to carry a brand like dior forward. Martijn Bal did three collection for Verri in Milan, but unfortunately under extreme difficult circumstances since the company was on the verge of going bankrupt already after the first season. This negative experience does not mean that his talent is lost. Kris van assche does nice things to, but I don't think he's really able to do any good for dior and plus he's doing his own line, which gives him probably much more freedom. Anyhow, I am quit exited to find out what hedi will be doing!!!!!

Helmut Lang for Dior Homme would be interesting.

I really think it'd be fun to see what Galliano could do with both homme and femme. Dior is supposed to be a very artistic brand, but Hedi has just done rocker-chic his entire time there. John Galliano, on the other hand, changes it up every season and nevver disappoints both editors and loyal fans. I know someone said something about him putting the label everywhere like on all of the women's accessories, but I'm 100% sure that that isn't Galliano's choice, but rather a choice from someone higher up, an exec who knows that the logo goods are where all the money is. Hedi is good for Dior, don't get me wrong, but he doesn't have too much variation on his theme.

I would like to see Slimane doing menswear at Yves Saint Laurent, while Pilati stays onboard with women's ready-to-wear. Though Karl consistantly has exactly one men's look each show I like, Chanel menswear would also be a good fit, especially with Karl and him being friends already.
