How Do Clothes Fit Different Body Shapes?

sometimes even 5 pounds changes the way my clothes look. so to answer the question, yes.

I used to be like 10-20 pounds overweight, and it was SOOO HARD to find pants that fit me...

All my weight was in my waist and butt, and I'm only 5'4 and was wearing a size 10 in pants! I always had to shorten my pants by a lot so they'd fit me. And finding a size 10 is very hard to do when you're young and want to look cute, because many brands would run small.

Now I'm 20 pounds lighter and wear a size 6 in pants and I don't need to shorten them anymore! ^_^ So it's A LOT easier to find clothes to fit you when you're smaller... Especially if you're short.

^ OMG, 5'4" and a size 10!!! Oh yes, now I remember why that sounds so familiar ... Good Lord, how do I manage ... B)

Oh gosh yes! Even if I wear clothes in the appropriate sizes when I change sizes. When I'm smaller there aren't certain areas I have to make sure are covered with less revealing material. If I'm over 110 lbs (I have a very petite frame)...no satin for me!

When I'm small I can wear whatever I want.

i think it's just my body shape in general that stops certain clothes from fitting me  my shoulders are quite broad for my frame, i am certainly a lot more top heavy due to my chest. yet i have a small waist and thin legs. i blame it all on being around 5ft2. so you can imagine how annoying it is getting a dress, it gets to the chest and refuses to zip up but if i go up a size it's too baggy everywhere else.

I think clothes always fit better at a smaller weight. (Unless you're underweight and they always looks baggy.)
But I mean as far as being "slim".
Clothes always fit me better then..yes. Of course, there's also the down side when you're in that *inbetween* size. When a size 7 is too big and a size 5 is too small for example....

Yes. Even being underwheight is better IMO. I myself am underweight by the docs standards and I have no problem fitting into clothes. I am glad I am because brands that are cut slimmer(DH, Raf, Ann, CDG, etc) fit me much more properly then an "average" sized guy.

yes..because you can also layer more and stuff. I've been sick for 5 months, and on and off sick for a little over a year, and have gained around 20 lbs. Yuck. I hate that I have to go shopping tomorroooow!

Yeah, it feels like the clothing is "struggling" to stay on my body properly when I'm heavier. Even if I go up a couple of sizes, my outfits still don't look right on me, they become even more ill-fitting. Plus I don't gain weight proportionatelly, I end up getting a gut and a couple of spare tires, not pretty. I'm only 5 feet and small boned, so I'm much better around 103 to 107 pounds.

well for me, i can never ever find jeans that arent baggy around my waist and hips, i have to go to the kids section. and they are always to baggy on the legs aswell, except skinny jeans.

Well, whether your clothes fit well or not isn't a function of your weight, its down to what size you buy and whether or not shops cater for your size and shape.
The implication of a lot of the comments so far -that the heavier you are, the more ill-fitting your clothes will be -is just wrong. Perhaps the heavier you are, the less your clothes will fit like models' -but just because that fit's held up as the ideal, doesn't mean it is.

I'm petite and quite boyish -no hips, no real waist -and I think some of my heavier friends look much better in their clothes. Partly, because I like curves (don't we always like what we don't have?) and also because I find that lots of clothes on the UK highstreet are cut for pear shapes.

I look better when I'm at a healthy weight -and when I've exercised and am toned -because most of the clothes I have are bought for me at my normal shape. Of course, when I thicken out a bit (during term time at uni, normally) my clothes don't fit as well because they're not the right shape or cut for my larger self.

I do think it's true that at the larger sizes it's harder to find clothes that fit well -there seems to be more variation in shape in the larger sizes (we all have similar skeletons, it's the flesh and muscle on top of that that changes our shape, so the more you have the more variation) which isn't catered for. The solution is to make better clothes, not necessarily lose the weight if it's not a health issue.

^ Thanks for an interesting post, uberwench (and btw, I just loooove your name ;))

I'm reminded of a time many years ago now when I took my younger sister (by 5 years) shopping and she bought a couple dresses. I asked in all innocence when we got home if I could try them on as we were about the same size (I think it was 6 or so). I had a more womanly figure, and she was really pissed when she saw that her black and white Scaasi dress looked better on me :innocent:  So I agree with you, especially if the clothes are made to flatter curves, you look better with them. But, there are styles and clothes that flatter every figure, and so there is always a style that isn't for you.

I totally agree with the two posts above! :flower:

I'm quite thin I would say but still have curves, yes I have the breasts and the *** and yes there are clothes that don't fit me because of that. It might be harder to find something when you have curves because not everything looks good on you. I know that from my own experience. A good friend of mine is really thin and she can wear everything (yes everything:lol: ) but if we wear the same for example I prefer to have curves. I just prefer the way clothes look when you have curves but I think it's true that you more possibilites to wear what you want when you are at a smaller weight. It kind of really depends on the clothes as well. I think you have to know which stuff you can wear and which not cause there is obviously stuff that looks better on smaller woman. Overall I think it's about the way you carry yourself too. If you're not self-confident in your clothes, you won't look good in them. No matter what size you are. It's as easy as that, believe me. ;)

I find clothes fit better on skinny people I have friends with more curves and they always have to look out and hide areas.

I'm kinda lucky I don't have to do that.

I feel like my clothes fit me better when I'm smaller. I'm a size 4 right now, and it just doesn't seem right for my body. When I'm a 2, everything just feels like it looks better.

I find that sometimes it is impossible for me to buy some types of clothes because of my body's build. I'm naturally curvy, unfortunately, meaning that I have trouble buying shorts because I have to get a huge size-like an 11 or 13-to accomodate my hips and butt, but it ends up being huge in the waist, to the point where wearing a belt to make it fit right makes all sorts of things go where they aren't supposed to. The sad part is no matter how much weight I lose I always be curvy and I'll never be able to find jeans and such that fit right. It has gotten to the point that because my thighs do not shrink and such, I cannot wear long pants. I have not worn long pants since 6th grade.

However the nice thing is that for formal dresses I tend to fit into them perfectly without needing that many alterations.

Yes, same for me. When I was at a higher weight, it seemed I had gained in all the wrong places too, well mostly just my waist/stomach. It was really hard for me to find clothes that fit right, especially pants because my waist/hip ratio was so close.
