How Do You Walk In High Heeled Shoes?

I'm in mourning because my 4" black boots died. I replaced them with a pair of similar ones, but they're only 3" and I can really tell the difference. I much preferred the higher ones.

^^ Do your feet a favour and stick to the lower heel. Even 3" is a lot if you wear them for hours and hours. :flower:

when i started wearing sandals i just went straight to the top and began with 4 inchers. i'm used to it now. it's the only shoes i feel good in. 3 inches feel just a little too short.

taking smaller steps or really big and quick help sometimes. if you're not used to it yet.

This is looking a really good site.

Quite detailed, might take ame awhile to read it but so far it's good.

My problem is finding a pair that fits. I have extremely wide toes and normal heel. I spend ages looking for a pair that fits, often there can only be one pair wit a wide enough toe found in the entire shopping trip and even then my toes have become deformed and ugly by the age of 18. :(

^I have the same problem. When I wear pointy heels I wear a size 41, usually a 39

I can't even put my feet into most pointy shoes without damaging the shoe.
I love shoes. But I can only have really ugly ones.

Does anyone elses toes go numb when wearing high heels?

Same with me! I had never worn heels before and suddenly bought a pair of 4" boots. Needless to say, it took quite some time to get used to. ;)

illusions - your toes shouldn't be going numb when you wear high heels. No matter what heel height your shoes have to be comfortable. I know we sometimes sort of joke about 'no pain no gain' but seriously, we do need shoes that fit the bill, or ball (of the foot as it were).

I've no idea of your budget, but get leather shoes full stop if you have wide feet as they will stretch as opposed to pleather which won't.

If you feel the stretch look is unbearable then either go to a wide shoe makers for your shoes and pay more for longer wear or be prepared to buy your shoes more often.

Once you find a pair to fit you your shoes will no longer make your toes numb and you'll adore heels, I swear to Carrie!!!

They are leather, £65 as well, which is more than I can afford but I need something to go on my feet. You can have no idea the trouble I go to to get shoes that fit, I only have 3 pairs (work/school, falling apart trainers and the heels). My family all have problems getting shoes, think we might have extra bones or something.
Even wide shoes are often too narrow, even then with heels you need a little support round the heel which you don't get if it's too big round there.

Sorry for the rant. My circulation isn't the greatest, it could just be that.

I used to never be able to walk long distances (more than an hour) in high heels. I used to think that's its because I wore cheap ones, I was convinced that if I buy designer, they'll ease the pain. I listened to all these people telling me how Manolos and Choos are better constructed etc Well, the truth is, it doesn't matter in terms of comfort. When I got way more money off my parents three years ago, I went on this designer shoe binge - prada heels, choos, sergio rossi, gucci etc. It really doesn't matter if it's 100$ or 400$, they hurt all the bloody same! And it's not even burning pain that bothers me, it's that I ALWAYS get blisters and I often BLEED. I bleed in flip-flops, mules, sandals. I think it's the shape of my feet. The only shoes i can wear comfortably are soft flats! So whenever I know i have to wear anything above my pain threshold, I just pul lots of plaster BEFORE i put on shoes. I know - UGLY! But I die otherwise. Oh, and the school cushions are good against heel pain.

I only wear heels indoors. It's so much easier on both my shoes and my feet! ;)

I only walk in high heels when I'm indoors. For outdoors, I wear ballerinas or running shoes if it's raining.

Wow - that picture comparing the shoe sizes is great!

I used to have some 4.5" Miu Miu pumps, and those killed (but only because they were too small!). Most of my shoes are 3.5-4.5", but most of them also have a platform!

^^ I hate when you have to deal with size and height issues! I have a lot of practice. ;) Although the highest I will go is 4". But when I do wear 'em high, I always put my weight a little forward toward the front of the shoes. This really helps. Before I am going to wear them out, I do some practice runs around my place with my weight being forward.
