How Does Everyone Afford All These Designer Items?

If I buy an expensive piece I make myself feel better by (actually wearing it) and dividing the cost down each day that I wear it. So it only costing me $7 a day rather than it being a hefty purchase

I rarerly buy at retail price... I work at a designer boutique so I get really nice discounts, I stalk ebay and all those dep stores sales.. also there are a lot of discount codes you can use online.. you can always find really good deals, you just have to have a lot of patience and time..

I make my cheaper items look 'richer' with designer accessories - nice flats (maloles, sigerson morrison, etc.), & chloe or mulberry bag. my clothes come from all around, but i haven't spent more than $100, with the exception of the shoes/bag/maybe a leather jacket someday??
but when i earn more, i'll probably stop buying the cheap stuff and stalk the ebay/dept store sales (like mariat89 said), and save up my money for quality. i think it's worth it. but now my mentality is, i'm trying to build up that elusive 'perfect' wardrobe. gotta remember quality not quantity...

I am amazed how some people have a shelf full of Louboutins.

I think my mother would disown me if I bought any shoes above $50.

I wait till designers go on sale.
If I reallly like something, then I buy it on full price.
I always but things like jewellery, make up, perfumes, etc on full price. My mother, brother, aunt .. and mostly my BOYFRIEND  spoil me too

omg, I do the cost per day method also...it makes the guilt a little easier..lol:shock:

i went to maxfield today and bought a jacket for $69!

so to answer your question, try maxfield lol.

I like this method... BUT... doesn't it only make sense that you use that until you buy something else? Or... if you buys 10 items they could end up costing $70 a day. :woot:

All in moderation, I suppose. :flower:

The only designer things I own are my Diorshow mascara and Valentino Rock 'n Rose perfume, and the two of those don't even add up to $100... I LOVE designer clothes, but so far, I've only looked at them/tried them on - no real purchases. Even if it's a really high quality, classic piece that I know I'll have for a long, long time, I can't seem to justify spending that much money on one item of clothing.

I mean, growing up, I learned to always buy from the sales rack - or better yet, the clearance rack. I'm starting to get over this, but deep down, I still have "No shirts over $10, no bottoms over $20, and no shoes over $30" ingrained in me. Seriously, a $20 shirt feels like a splurge and I often feel quite guilty about it... and then I flip through a magazine and see a $200 top referred to as "affordable".

And really, it's not like I can't afford the more expensive stuff - my family's pretty well off, and I'm in college, but I work. It's just that I can't get over my own mental block. Sometimes I really wish I could, 'cause there's some designer stuff that I really want to get my hands on...

pshhhhhh i dont buy designer stuff. i can appreciate it's beauty and hard-work, but im too fickle about fashion for that kind of commitment. plus i can't have nice things haha. plus i think it's absolutely ridiculous to spend 600 dollars on shoes, it's like dude... give it to a family that could actually use that to buy groceries. *shrug*

If youve got a good eye and are smart with your money its pretty easy to have a alot of good clothes (good DOESNT mean designer). I always pop into opshops when ever i see them and browse just for a few minutes (not for hours or anything). anything worthwhile instantly sticks out and i buy it only if i think its a reasonable opshop price and i know i will wear it ALOT. then i go home and often relise it a designer item LOL (most of my stuff is australian designer stuff not overseas designer stuff although ive found a few of that too). Like yesterday i found a alana hill dress for $5 and about two weeks ago a calvin klein dress for $15. I think im very lucky, ive got a built in "bargen raidar".

the only things hard to find are jackets because im pretty thin. im really lucky to sometimes have designer give me stuff, and its always jackets i ask for.... handbags are pretty hard to get as bargains in opshops so i just dont own any deigner handbags and buy what ever i think is hot from cheep mass stores. shoes i find on the odd occasion so usually i just stick to cheep stores for those too.

This is how i own designer stuff but spend bearly any moneyont clothes, all my money goes into flying home eversecond weekend because i get home sick:yuk:

knockoffs, since i really cant afford anything designer. plus everything here is so expensive and so four seasons ago.i dont live in a city where stores have 80% off or samples or anything and my style is not the vintage mix and match type. plus my fashion school (best in the country but scholaship and all its still too expensive) makes me spend a lot of money on materials and fabrics and stuff like that, and i had to move out of my parents to a bigger city for school, more money involved in that. id kill someone to get my feet into Louboutins but instead i have some platform peeptoes and thats the best i can do. I also sew some of my clothes with high end designers in mind. and of courses theres always a zara just around the corner.

Every month, I share my budget into 'the appartment loan and the factures/taxes', 'money I want to save', 'money I can spend on whatever I want'. Usually, it's clothes, books, CD...
I don't have a very large wardrobe, but they are all clothes I've chosen carefully, love and take great care of.
I will never buy 4 cheap quality tee shirts 'because they're on sale, that's too cool' if I don't need them. I don't buy something if I don't 'need' it...well if I'm not sure I really want it and if I can't picture myself in it.B)
I love Chloe's handbags and shoes, Chanel's bags, Zac Posen, Jenni Kayne, Burberry Prorsum, Marc Jacobs but I try to buy on ebay.com (thanks to the difference between euro and USD, it's cheaper for european people to order in the USA) or when it's on sale.
Ebay.com is great because I can get 7 for all mankind, Siwy or Hudson jeans for much cheaper than if I buy them in France (the price is at least 4 times more expensive in France than on ebay...). And sunglasses and handbags. The jetlag is pretty hard when a bid ends at 3 o'clock in the morning but it's worth it!
Revolveclothing is a great online store, free shipping and there are often sales.
I really take care of my clothes and accessoires so I keep them a very long time (I still wear the Levi's 501 I used to wear in higschool - 12 years ago - and everybody keep asking me where I found a 'almost new vintage-looking jean').
I take care of my cheaper clothing (H&M, C&C California, Splendid, AA...) the same way I take care of my designers products and I mix&match.

I really want to afford a nice, quality designer bag - Balenciaga, chloe, Miu Miu or Mulbery I am looking at now...but there is no way I can afford a $1500-2500 price tag - I'd be saving up for a year :(
Does anyone know if any department stores etc. do a sort of payment plan? Like I'd pay $200/month for a year.?

buying on credit its the worst choice. its always more expensive at the end.

i guess ebay is the best choice to afford designer stuff for a lower price. lots of people here in tfs buys stuff from ebay on a regular basis. thing is shipping to mexico is expensive and sometimes its not worth it cause the price increases with shipping too much.

you are my hero.

My problem is that I need to know when I am spending too much. I might need to dovelope a mental block when spending. But, I did by my first luxury piece a month ago and at steal too. A cashmere cardigan that was marked down from like 300 to 50 dollars. Its not much, but you have to start at the basics.

wow...^_^

I buy one thing at a time. I won't charge everything and be stuck in a huge amount of debt.

I bought an Ed Hardy fragrance, an Armani Exchange belt, and Dior Blackout mascara which is at least a bit over $100.
