How Much Can an AVERAGE Model Expect to Get Paid? (PLEASE READ POST #1 BEFORE POSTING)

I know of a 'name brand' campaign that paid 15,000 a day. Some of the models worked 3 days and some worked 5 days.
The thing is....if you book the top shows and if you land a campaign or two you will make very good money. If you walk the middle end shows the pay is minimal. If you fail to book campaigns or work for top catalog brands, it isn't long before you're in the hole to your agency. Your advances and model apartment fees add up and even if you book a paying job,it all goes to your agency when the check comes in. If you have an income outside of modeling,it's easy to stay in it for a lenght of time but if you don't,it isn't long before you end up back where you came from and the next girl in line takes your place.

There has been some talk in the Ruslana K. thread about her being broke at the time of her death. The thing is you could have all the money in the world on the books at an agency but unless the client has paid...you're not going to be paid. At one time they would give you an advance on incoming job payments but this is not as common as it used to be. Sometimes the wait is 6 months and sometimes if the client doesn't pay....you get nothing at all.

For many of the lesser known models by the time they recieve their checks there is a negative balance because of their rent,parerwork,website,cars,flights etc.....so you stay in debt to the agencies the whole time you are modeling.

I'm a model in Asia and yes the information is correct. The money's in Asia. I make SGD $300 per hour(USD $230) and I usually make about Singapore Dollars 10k per month. (About USD $7600)Keep in mind that taxes in Asia are low(13%) and that I live with my parents. If I've to fly within Asia, my flights are paid for by my agencies. I don't cab to places OFTEN. Even so, I spent about average of SGD $300 per month on cabs. I usually take the public transport. I am THAT frugal haha. I make most of my money doing print advertisements and bridal catalogs.

Oh my gosh, I accidentally read the thread's title as "How much do models get laid" ...

:ninja:

Ive come to the conclusion is Modeling really worth it? I think all these girls go through a lot physically and mentally for pretty much nothing unless they get really known and for that you have to date a celebrity.

Do non-Asian models get paid more? I would think that's harder to find than locals.

Why do girls model anyways? I think it's every girl's dream to be in magazines or runways. Every girl wants to be considered beautiful. That's all worth it to them.

it really sucks sometimes when models don't get to see any of the money they've earn. All the money goes to the agency, hotels, transportation, flight..:shock: they're practically broke by end of the season.

Whether it is through exclusive contracts--Carolyn Murphy must have made bags of money so far as the face of Estee Lauder or other means, some well known models have done quite well.

Maggie Rizer made enough for her stepfather to gamble away a few million;

I have seen estimates of Shalom Harlow's wealth around CAN$ 15 million;

Carmen Kass seems to be quite well off, investing in property in Estonia and such;

but I would imagine that most models are like boxers, another group of freelancers who make their money with their bodies--they don't get paid much to start out and when they do start earning most of their money goes to (in the case of boxers) gym fees, trainer, manager, expenses. Same for models.

A boxer might win a fight with a winner's purse of $50,000 and wind up with $5,000 in cash.

Professionals in each have very little time--usually several years--to make it or find another line of work.

From what I have learned ....here is how it works. You hit NY,you're new and the first thing the agency is going to try and do is get your face out there before show season hits. You are sent to all the high end clients and top photographers. The hope is that you will pick up editorials (which pay next to nothing...even for the top girls) in magazines that count, in which case certain clients will notice you and book you for the shows,(still the pay is low,sometimes for clothes only). Money wise none of this amounts to a hill of beans unless you book the campaigns that pay top money. This is how you work your way to the top.

That being said you can make good money booking catalog or showroom but to be known in as a top model....you have to have to add high end campaigns to your credit.....and you can't stay on top unless it happens season after season,a hard act for anyone to keep up.
