Ow, I like it too! The cover is about the only September cover thus far that feels season appropriate and I like the use of red. Anne has photographed beautifully and with the styling, looks sophisticated and mature.

Really scratching my head at the cover choice. Why Sky Fereirra?? And the layout isn't helping at all.

This September issue is 204 pages - count 'em all - and the Sky Ferreira cover is a tie-in with her Jimmy Choo fragrance campaign.

While I can't ever remember UK InStyle producing enormous issues, this magazine feels like it's fading away, which is a shame, because there are things it does well - like featuring lesser-known actresses in fashion stories and puting some unexpected faces on the cover, not to mention the clean design.

As part of the why-not-subscribe spiel, the editor says she still gets it delivered to her door. That would only make sense if she was keeping tabs on the service provided to her readers. Otherwise, it's the craziest reason I've ever seen put forward for signing up. "Subscribe to this magazine - even it's own editor does!"

I think you hit the nail on the head as to why the cover works. No aloof posing here. Anne's leaning in, looking us square in the eye, and she looks happy, intelligent, and engaging. A quietly powerful cover, when you consider the amount of unwarranted vitriol that that's been sent her way the past few years.
