Is Bare Minerals Worth Buying?

yeah, they sell it in nyc sephora too. you can sleep with the regular bare minerals on, but i think it does something more with vitamins at night, who knows. lol atleast it looks natural and yes it's def good for sleep overs "after the shower" you can easily dust some on.

I am not sure if it is just the Ulta near me or if it is nationwide, but tomorrow there is a Bare Minerals Event.

Has anyone here tried Sheer Cover AND Bare Minerals?

I've been using Sheer Cover for a few years and am pretty happy with it.... but hearing all these reviews, I'm tempted to try BM, despite some of the negatives I've heard. I was just wondering if everyone really likes BM because it's the first they've tried, or after comparing with other mineral makeups.

Thanks!

Before I ever tried BM, I used Sheer Cover, but I never used them together. I preferred BM over Sheer Cover, so I switched completely over to that. I used SC before they had anything in their line other than foundation and powder and liked that BM offered a range of colors and different products. I might feel differently not that SC has expanded their line though.

Next Friday, QVC is celebrating the anniversary of BM. I cannot wait. I looooove when Leslie is on QVC because I learn so many tricks from her on how to apply the makeup! :D

I dont know which shade to get
( and yes, i am a boy , obviusly :P )

Light , fairly light *confused* Sometimes even the lightest shades on some brands make me look awful

(bare in mind , the flash in on , and i usually look a lot paler :innocent:)

Thanks :flower:

^ I would recommend light for you. Do you tan at all? If so, you might want to get fairly light for the summer months. You have a gorgeous complexion, btw. I think BM will be great for you because no one will be able to tell you are wearing it and it won't make you look chalky like some foundations to do people with light skin. I wear fairly light and am darker than you in case you want a comparison. Good luck!

PS- you also might want to consider Everyday Minerals because you can order free samples. PM me if you want to know more.

^^ Thank you
I just ordered it in Light , i got a bit impatient :P
I dont tan , i wear spf 40 everyday and i usually dont tan or burn in the summer , so i think i will be fine sticking to light all year round !

PS - Is Everyday Minerals available in the UK , becuase if so , i would be interested in the samples !!

Thanks for your help ! :flower:

^ You're welcome! Let us know how you like it.

I just checked the Everyday Minerals site, and they ship to all countries. You can go to everydayminerals.com and then click the "custom kits" tab to order the samples. You get 2 foundations, a blush, a powder, and a concealer! You do have to pay for shipping though. It is $3.95 in the US.

Just a clarification - "fairly light" is a lighter shade than "light". It's called that, not becuse it's somewhat/fairly light, but because it's the shade between the lightest shade, which is called "fair" and the third lightest, which is called "light".

I wear "fairly light" in the winter and "light" in the summer.

^ Oh thanks. Sometimes I get confused between all the "lights".

If I had to buy one item, definitely the "foundation" minerals.
but the blushes and eyeshadows and brushes are outstanding

I just bought Bare Minerals yesterday at Sephora. I've been wanting to try it for awhile as I just keep hearing such great things! I got the starter kit. I tried using it for the first time and I love how subtle it is, how light it feels on my skin, and how it really makes me look awake and glowing!

Next purchase will be one of their blushes, the faux tan powder for the summer, and eye shadows I think!

^ Congrats on your purchase! :flower:

Their blushes and all over colors are my favorite (just make sure you use a very small amount). They have some lovely eyeshadows too and a really good variety of shades. I just picked up a really pretty gold shade that I am currently obsessed with.

I use the gold- queen phillis, lightly on my nose and cheeks , eyes, as a finishing dew

TheKiwi - I recommend BE's glimmer eyeshadows; they are fabulous and can be worn wet or dry for different looks.

Be aware and be careful. There are many similar articles on the web about the potential dangers of bare minerals makeup. I love many of their products but am tossing them out!

Question: Is mineral-based make-up safer for you than make-up bought at drug stores or department stores? Most of the mineral-based make-up contains titanium dioxide and/or silica, and some contain iron of some type. Is this okay for your skin? I am wondering how such make-up is absorbed into the body, too!
Answer: Like all cosmetics, mineral-based products raise more questions about their safety than answers. Many mineral-based make-ups contain (or potentially contain) nano-size ingredients, which are 10 to 1,000 times smaller than their normally-sized counterparts and are more likely to be absorbed into the body through the skin because they're so small. (See EWG's research on nano-materials.)

One recent study by the National Center for Toxicological Research found that nano-sized particles could be detected throughout the lymphatic system within minutes after being deposited in the skin of mice. And once nano-particles are absorbed by the body, studies to date suggest that they are quite damaging--for instance, they can cause emphysema-like symptoms when absorbed into the lungs and are toxic to a variety of cells. In short, it is a good idea to avoid inhaling mineral-based cosmetics--be careful to not create dust, as particles can quickly absorb deep into the lungs--and avoid using them on damaged skin where the likelihood of absorption is dramatically increased.
As for the second part of the question, we have a limited understanding of the ingredients titanium dioxide, silica, and iron, as used in cosmetics. (Click on each ingredient to learn more about what we do know in our cosmetics database, Skin Deep.) Why don't we know more? Because the FDA doesn't require companies to test their own products for safety. If you think that's ridiculous, sign our petition to the FDA urging them to set safety standards when it comes to the products we all use every day.

im pretty sure that bare minerals brand does not have titanium dioxide, silica or iron, as per their infomercial.
