is there a berkeley/bay area street style?

BTW, is there a thread dedicated to "the Sartorialist" blog? I'd love to discuss some of his posts. His photos are always inspiring.:flower:

i dont think there is one dedicated to the blog, but many users use his photos to post in the different city street style threads.
Scott Schuman (the Satorialist) and Yvan Rodic (the Face Hunter) really run great style blogs

yeah. Birkenstocks and girls without bras.
it's a really liberal scene up there. when i went to Berkeley, i saw quite a few Rastafarians selling beaded jewelry across the street from the UC campus, lots of colour, baggy clothing, etc. not sure if it has changed in the past 4 years though

but Bay Area style is different all around, if you are in Berkeley it's different than what you'd most likely see in the city of San Francisco. it depends i guess.

I live in San Francisco and the people here in SF do not wear Birkenstocks haha that's funny. Maybe in Berkeley but Berkeley and SF are completely different as far as how people dress and the fashion scene. AHhh haha and no bras, sorry love but this isn't the late 60's.

it was a joke about the bras.
and fyi the topic is called Berkeley/Bay Area street style as well.

i'm still waiting for good SF photos that everyone is raving about :innocent:

I went shopping in Berkeley two weeks ago and found that its style stays pretty true to the stereotype. Most of the young people are students, of course, so school t-shirts/sweatshirts are everywhere. Laid back and unpretentious. Nothing to write home about.

I found a San Francisco Street Style blog but most of the features are tacky and not reflective AT ALL of the San Franciscan aesthetic:

I find I'm either too shy or too busy to be pointing my crappy camera at anyone. Plus, I am an awful photographer. I work in Union Square/downtown area, so I reckon most of the cool fashion I see is on well-heeled European and Asian tourists, anyway. It's not really indicative of the people who live here. Perhaps by springtime, if I have a better camera and a photography class, I'll muster the courage to photograph street fashion.

Berkeley is very diverse, just on a smaller scale than San Fran. First and formost is the hippie look, everything from low to high end. Lots of loose, comfortable, natural fiber clothing. Cottons, hemp (of course :p), tees, jeans. There's always been an edge to Berkeley too, so there's street elements, punk, vintage, grunge, hip hop, etc... Even preppy in parts. Decent shopping, with boutiques along College Ave going south into Oakland and a few in North Berkeley and of course the hippie, vintage/used clothing shops and college wear along Telegraph Ave.
