Japanese Street Style #1

Oh I only noticed the cute socks (leg warmers?) too - I had to go back and look again to see what you meant. ^_^

Sometimes i wonder would it be the same stylish and "cool" if a western person wears absolutely the same oufit as posted above.

oh very well then...
well all the colour will probably make you look like a cosplayer anyway.

ummm, as in normal clothes?
a lot of normal japanese clothes are based on vintage western trends.
so it's perfectly fine.

^ i would rather *********** than look like a cosplayer :ninja: (sorry if there are any cosplayers here )

i really like their style (although i would never wear most of the outfits we can find on jp streets) but sometimes i have the feeling we kinda overrate their look just because they are japanese and jp street style is pretty trendy now. that's why i mentioned before if it would be the same "cool" on a western person or not, because he or she is not japanese.
sorry if i hurt anybody's feeling here, but with all the respect and admire i feel for certain jp street oufits, this is what i think.

No, I know what you're saying, Sophie. I think there's a bit of difference in how those kinds of outfits are perceived though.

I think that the people wearing them aren't wearing them as a style, but as a joke or a bit of fun. It is cosplay. But then some foreigners interpret their cosplay as style and personal expression etc. Just a bit lost in translation.

(Personally, I don't think cosplay should have a place on Fashion Spot unless it's in a special "inspiration" section or something.)

hmm, i think cosplay is associated with enjoyment.
i think it's hard to find a cosplayer that pulls something off as not incredulously cheesy.

sorry if they're too big

In that last picture with the girl wearing the green and black sweatsuit: doesn't she look really smart in those glasses? (Perfect example of how glasses can make anyone look incredibly intelligent)

haha, the typical sweatsuit + glasses type.
i don't like the shoes too much, but i guess it fits the aesthetic.

hehe..when i first saw it..i thought of 'hyper emo!' and i was thinking of the very cliched, "old school" tracksuits emo.

oh man...i used to subscrib to CUTiE magazine...shed so much money. i have a whole year of CUTiE, various months of non-no and men's non-no. i should post some pics when i have time to take some pics.
i really liked some of the men's non-no editorials..is it alright to post some of those?

I like the style of the Anime cartoons, especially Peach Girl. It's young and funky and sexy.

I have a question but I'm not really sure where it should go so I thought I'd post it here sorry if that's the wrong thing to do. I've always wondered whether the japanese men are more metrosexual than most or if they are in fact gay obviously not all of them are and I don't mean to generalize. But they are all so amazingly dressed not that I'm saying straight men can't but I've always been curious. I don't mean to offend anyone here either by my comments so sorry if I've caused offence I'm one of their biggest fans! :flower:

^ You are funny! ^^
My boy-friend is Japanese and yes.. i could call him metrosexual or if i don't know him i would think he's gay..
One of the tons of reasons must be they show somekind of respect towards others..
I think in Western culture we are thaught that it's not manish if a man takes care of his look to much. A man can be hairy, but a woman.. :innocent:
But every time it's strange for me, i put away my Western mind and take him positively. It's 1000 times better than its opposite..
They are not gay nor metrosexual, they are Japanese. :D
