i know a lot of people have toned down that *kawaii*desu look in japan nowadays. more girls are following american trends. and i think that the ganguro (black face, white lips & eyes, 5inch platforms etc..) era has died out.

Well what you just described is manba-style. that has surely died out (white lips, platfrom boots), but other styles are still there, otherwise there wouldn't be several magazines dedicated to that style~ If it's still popular is another question haha.
I will go to Tokyo and pay special attention to what styles they are following I woudln't say that they are following American style only though~

no im japanese and i go there quite often. i know how the locals dress like.

but i did said *most girls*.. manba & ganguro are two different styles.. one is more into the alba rosa *hawaiian* style while the other one is focused on cute*.

well I have friends who go their quite often as well and I believe what they tell me it's not like they are fashion idiots, they are into fashion as much as me

^It reminded me of when I went shopping wth my Japanese friend (he went home in December)---he told me to buy a mickey mouse t-shirt we found at a shop because he said it suited me, but I said I don't think I could wear that where I live... It's nice that He was surprised??!?!?!!
