Hey paprika hiccup, is Doyer street the street where the post office is located? Sorry..i have no sense of diretion whatsoever but that area in the pic looks familiar. thanks

This is a generalization, but it is certainly true in my area: The Japenese seem to wear hats way more frequently than Americans do. It often completes an outfit and adds an extra finished look to add a hat (I think).

I love hats.

i wish i had cutesy fashionista girlfriends like everyone on this forum.

Some of it looks like they're trying way too hard. But a lot of it is fantastic. This is quite an interesting thread.

By western standards it would seem that way but to the japanese, being that thier economy is mainly based on consumerism they enjoy many things like PORTRAYING A UNIQUE IMAGE to thier peers, dressing is like an artform to them, and they strive to have the best of everything so they really push boundaries..

Out here on the west coast most people get away with fashion murder, torn shorts ragged flip-flops, or even sweats... uuuugghhhhh

Sure it's a well-known site, but not my favourite.
I prefer www.style-arena.jp/index.htm ^_^

So, in other words, they are trying really hard. :innocent: ;)

Everytime I go back to Taiwan (3 months at a time) I'm nicely surprised at how well most people are dressed. Most of them do the jap-street style ... so after awhile, you kind of get sick of it. I was glad to be back in Montreal after seeing so many knee socks / tights. :P

After reading what I wrote, it does look like a long winded version of what your saying that "they are really trying hard"..... ha ha

I need to explain a bit differently I guess, so that I get the point across and you don't see it as a repitition of your statement.

Dressing crazy is part of thier culture, they are all about presentation right down to thier food like sushi... They don't "TRY HARD" it just happens that way because theres no dress standards holding them back due to thier society.

Makes sence??
