Japanese Street Style #1

Ok, I was looking on the Onatoko website and I saw that they had forums. Well, they're hardly tfs, but someone posted these links and I thought they were really interesting.

CA4LA You know the cool hats that are in so many of the pictures? This website sells some really awesome ones that are quite different from anything that you would find over here. The catch? It's in Japanese, but you can at least look at the pictures by clicking the few English links. Does anyone here read Japanese who can tell me what the prices are like?

Also suggested by the forum person:
Karma Loop -Like Urban Outfitters
Stitch Pixie - Cute homemade stuff
Voodoo Shoes -Footwear
Pearl River
Purple Fusion - Ebay store
Tokyo Gems - Eh

The first three (under the hat one) are not Japanese, but I thought I'd post them anyway because...well I dunno. The last three are more Japanese-oriented.

So, yeah. Credit for the links: ahrob on the Onatoko forum, in case anybody cares.

And again...can anyone read the Japanese on the hat page? I'm curious. :innocent:

Gwen Stefani's new cd talks a lot about Japanese style. What does Harajuku(sp?) mean? Is it a place or group of people?

Harajuku is a city in Japan that is mainly populated with hip, young people.

Oh, ok, thanks for the correction, I'm not sure if I've been there before but I've been to Shinjuku, so I guess that's not a city either?

HARAJUKU fawking rules....

Its basically a subdivision of TOKYO thats very centrally located between Shinjuku & Shibuya its known for its shopping areas and generally where alot of the young hip set hang out, there is also a bridge where all the costume play girls hang out and flaunt thier outrageous outfits every weekend for all the tourists to see...

But the main focus of this area is that its all about emerging fashion trends if designers have a presence in Harajuku they have a HUGE presence in the world fashion scene... so they open stores in that area to be HAWT... I couldn't believe my eyes however when I saw a tommy hilfigger store there  ......

I can think of many things I'd rather do than wear SOME of these things...such as:

Stab myself in the foot
Slam my face into a brick wall
Take a long walk off a short pier.

Harajuku seems to be a major center of streetwear in japan as well.
cult brands like neighborhood, and real mad hectic.

OK, ok. I was in a bad mood when I wrote that. To each their own. In my own defense however...I've seen a picture of one of these young ladies dressed as...what I can only describe as Lolita Bo Peep. What's that? I had to shake my head.

I think it's awesome. It's like seeing women wear couture on a day/night out. Who would have the guts to wear outrageous stuff in the states? Not many. I think it works. Besides, the gothic lolita look is very in as obvious in that other 'trend' thread that discussed it. It's like bringing the runway look to real life. We should be working to implement that.

Did anyone else watch America's Next Top Model tonight? The entire show revolved around Japanese street style.

Japanese fashion didn't really strike me, or make sense when I first came here... Now that I look at all these wonderful pictures, I think its amazing how people constantly have this runway look with them, and yet manage to pull it off. Through the years I've really learned to appreciate such fashion concious people. its beautiful.

I just can't stop staring at this coat...
