I really love the Lolita look but I don't see it much anymore. I hope I can find really great Lolita's to post.

IMO the Lolita look was interesting 5 years ago...its not anymore...

I think it's just one of those things...which will stay forever.

It's so strange when you see a girl walking in full lolita costume - it's like a cartoon come to life.

yeah its part of the modern japanese culture i guess...

id love to see a lolita girl in real life...i would be like

god. the style is amazing. whether you love it or hate it, you have to appreciate the hard work and thought put into it.

I love Japan. I'd love to go there if I went travelling. Japanese ladies are the bravest ones in cold weather, wearing short-shorts with knee-high boots. It used to be platform boots until they've been outlawed because of injury and death. Japanese fashion is as colorful as their personalities. There's even this retailer specializing in bell bottom jeans called DEE*DEE. I can't type the star very well, so I used an asterisk. What I've found about Japanese fashion (especially with femmes) is that their clothing is highly colorful and expressive. They do a job of layering that just seems completely missing and devoid in America. Like, they know how to layer without looking too overdressed. I've even seen jeans being worn over skirts in Japanese fashion.

From one of the most recent posts on this page, I still think wearing exposed front pockets on short-shorts is absolutely tacky. Defend this look all you want- I hate this. It's tacky. This is the kind of fashion in Japan that just captures the imagination. So what if they aren't wearing stuff that would qualify them to be main characters of "Sex and the City?" They have a style all their own and wear it lovingly. Even the hommes of Japanese fashion have their own colorful way of expressing themselves. We love Japan for their weirdness (maybe not weird in Japanese culture) as well as their colorful people. These styles express that truthfully. I'm very much a fan of Japan and Japanese culture. Hats off to all the people who helped contribute to showing off Japanese style in this thread.

The way I've seen it in pictures, someone takes a knee-length skirt and just wears it over jeans. Either that, or a femme would put on jeans first and then step into a skirt. If you're thinking of a denim skirt over jeans, this is obviously impossible and tough to pull off (and overdressing). Here is a link I found that shows off the look. Notice the femme on the left in the following link: < http://web-japan.org/kidsweb/archives/cool/02-07-09/layered.html >.

As for the other question, that's just cause. Just chose to do that. Message boards, like life, needs some characters every now and then. Glad to be of service.

I know how to put a skirt over trousers, that's not so hard. But in the part I quoted you said trousers over skirts. So that was a typo?

Hehe, I noticed the mistake too, Cola. Although I've seen dresses over skirts in other countries. It was all the rage a few years ago when I lived in Malaysia.

I agree very much with John about a Japanese women people not looking too overdressed when layering. I suppose the trick is to wear light layers but there's probably more to it than that.
