Le couturier Jean-Louis Scherrer est décédé jeudi matin à Paris à 78 ans, des suites d’une longue maladie, a indiqué un de ses proches à l’AFP, confirmant une information du Point.

Jean-Louis Scherrer était «depuis dix mois à l’hôpital», a dit Guillaume Feugeas, son «employé depuis 14 ans». Il est décédé dans une clinique du XVème arrondissement parisien.

«Il est mort des suites d’une longue maladie. Son état s’était aggravé il y a quelques mois», a-t-il poursuivi.

Né le 19 février 1935, Jean-Louis Scherrer avait d’abord suivi le Conservatoire pour devenir danseur professionnel, mais un accident l’avait empêché de faire carrière.

En 1956, un diplôme de la Chambre syndicale de la couture parisienne en main, il est entré chez Christian Dior, qui lui a appris la technique de la haute couture. Après la mort de Dior, il a travaillé avec Yves Saint-Laurent.

Il s’était lancé sous son propre nom en 1962 et c’est dans une cave qu’il a exposé sa première collection, des robes de cocktails fauves, à pois ou fleuries. En 1971, il a réalisé son rêve en ouvrant sa boutique avenue Montaigne, temple du chic parisien, et a reçu l’appellation «haute couture».

Il a compté Jackie Kennedy et Michèle Morgan parmi ses clientes.

Après des années de succès, Jean-Louis Scherrer a été congédié par ses actionnaires en 1992. Sa griffe a disparu en 2008.
