So far the womenswear is giving Raf's Dior and the menswear is giving...Alessandro Michele's Gucci but also with a dash of Commes Des Garcons?
To be fair, Raf is overall bad but had one hit couture show that might have changed people's perception of this brand, while JWA is consistently parading red carpet looks if we disregard menswear debut that are worse than Gaytten.

That dress looks incredibly bulky and unnecessarily complicated. The technique is beautifully done, but the same can be said about all arts and crafts. I wish the weaving was bigger and more exaggerated; at such a small scale, it doesn't have much impact. So far, what he's shown has just been the JW Anderson brand through a Dior Instagram filter. The fabric can only do so much work. There has to be a conversation with the Maison, not just a text.

i feel kinda vindicated in my feeling that

jonathan, who i really like, is perfect at doing his own brand, uniqlo collabs + really exceeded at loewe

in this combination of taking classical or craft things, adding whimsy or intellect or quirks, incredible color choices and references, i wish i could own and wear almost everything he has made thus far in his career

he is so wrong at dior, he would have been a better fit at burberry a few years back, that would have been heaven, him leaving loewe will be terrible for that brand-- he really made magic there, and it wont be recreated and he cant do the same at dior

The dress leaves you wondering just how it ties in with all the custom outfits presented before - Nothing from the silhouette or design concept tells a cohesive direction for J.W. Anderson’s vision of the Dior woman, much in the way that his menswear felt like a pile of unrelated merchandise thrown together, in hopes that something might stick with the customer.

Lakeith has the charisma that is lacking on all the others wearers of Dior Homme by JWA. I wonder how he moved with those pants but he looks great.

The blue dress is not bad but the same point as I made again and again.
It’s like Louis Vuitton custom looks. Sometimes they will take a sleeve detail and build a dress that looks nothing like it runway inspiration. Most of their custom looks are taking small details or specific features of one look to make several dresses.

Except for the 1920’s inspired silhouettes, all those custom looks could be based on anything. The dress on Anya could be a top or a skirt on the runway. It also could be in a different fabric.

I guess that we will be bombarded with a lot more looks before the show. At this point, much like for the menswear show, I expect the whole attendance of celebrities wearing the collection they are going to see.

What I take from this is that sometimes, designers are also responsible for the lack of esteem that fashion fans have towards fashion. I love JWA but this is his decision and his decision only to make his work feel like an entire marketing operation. Because the more those outings are coming out, the more his intention is diluted. The clothes are not so much the stars at this point.
They are now the supporting act of this obvious marketing operation.

You want to tease the world? Make those celebrities wear either reproductions or modernized versions of Christian Dior and maybe variations one 1 look from your collection. It then creates a direct filiation between Dior and you.

I don’t doubt of his success because again, Redcarpet is very minimal today on the impact or success of a tenure but this won’t be remember as a great moment. It’s probably a blueprint now on « what to not do at all ».

Showing only Anya's blue dress and Greta's black combo would have created expectations about the coming womens show. This avalanche of very irregular Dior almost destroyed them.

Mens was lackluster, and the overall lack of technical virtuosity makes one fear the worse for their Haute Couture.

😏😏😏
Maria Grazia made this LOL

to be fair john had his bias cut he brought to dior as well and other ideas and ways of aprotrationg culktures etc via storytelling , Raf and MGC same mostly kets their fav things/ways of designing for dior ... its normal , the crime is that this is just not brought up to dior HC level that can show he developed the idea to a more refined and new way for dior it's still too infantile and clunky even if it's just custom HC still the technic should have been there and design evolution.
