Here's the article.......U.K Grazia 12 December
Two years ago, Keira Knightley’s idea of dressing up for the red carpet was to wear a slightly smarter pair of jeans than normal. Today, she’s the darling of the fashion world with a serious shoe addiction and a passion for pencil skirts. Here, her stylist Rachel Zoe reveals the secrets of her amazing transformation.
As Keira Knightly arrived to collect an award in London last week she looked every inch the Hollywood star in vintage Hervé Léger and elegant gold accessories. Just days earlier the 20-year old actress had cemented her new style-icon status by appearing in US Vogue, shot by legendary photographer Annie Lebovitz. Both are proof she’s come a long way from Bend it Like Beckham and her once-permanent uniform of jeans.
So who’s the fashion mastermind behind Keira’s new look? Step forward Rachel Zoe. Remember Cameron Diaz in strapless Vuitton at Cannes? That was Rachel. And Jennifer Garner in asymmetric Valentino at last year’s Oscars? Rachel again. The 33-year-old New Yorker is also responsible for getting Keira out of jeans and into couture. ‘It’s not that she was stuck in a rut’, Rachel told Grazia last week. ‘It’s just that some people put their image first, but with her, acting comes first.’
The first time they worked together was on the LA premiere of The Jacket. ‘She wore a black Chanel cocktail dress,’ remembers Rachel. ‘Generally I bring her a ton of things and the dress we’ll choose is the one she puts on and says, ‘This is is quite magnificent isn’t it?’. But Rachel doesn’t simply pick out clothes. I ‘I co-designed a dress with Calvin Klein for her because I know she doesn’t like anything too girly. That dress has an edge – it’s like ‘tomboy glamour’. Rachel has clearly inspired Keira’s new-found interest in fashion. The actress recently told Grazia: ‘My latest obsession is 1950s pencil skirts. They really compliment your figure especially if you’ve got curves like me. I love Roland Mouret’s skirts – I always feel sexy in them.’ These days she’s often seen in chic Covent Garden boutique Koh Samui (earlier she’d haunted Camden Market) and admits to being a shoeaholic. ‘I have shoes I’ve never taken out of the box,’ Keira laughs. ‘I even have shoes that don’t fit. I look at them and go, ‘Oh it doesn’t matter that I can’t wear them – they’re so pretty!’ But as Rachel says, it’s not hard to make Keira look good. ‘She look amazing in everything’, she says. ‘She’s so beautiful it’s ridiculous’.
Keira’s on a high at the moment with the buzz surrounding her performance in Pride and Prejudice reaching a crescendo. The Golden Globes, a good indicator for the Oscars announce their nominations next week and Keira is tipped to be up for best actress. One thing’s for sure: if Rachel has anything to do with it, she’ll not only be a winner at the ceremony in January, but the most stylish star on the red carpet too!
