THE ROLE At age 14, Knightley played Sabé, a look-alike handmaiden of Queen Amidala (Natalie Portman) who poses as a decoy for her endangered mistress. Though the role was hardly strenuous — she barely spoke a word, just wore that mask-like face of makeup — she was in good company: Among the starlets who have also appeared as handmaidens are Sofia Coppola and Rose Byrne (in
Episode II).
