Keira Knightley

No, Fliss! I'm with you. I loved that shoot but the Glamour one is also lovely to look at. I'd love to see even more from the US photoshoot too.

And styleocide- I agree. Audrey Hepburn is and always will be Eliza Doolittle but every classic film will probably end up remade at some point and if it is going to be anyone playing her, I hope Keira gets a shot at it.

I think Keira should be commended for her film choices and I, for one, am sort of glad she isn't returning to Pirates. Her desire to play strong, female leads is very Katharine Hepburn of her and she reminds me of her a lot, in both style and attitude. King Lear will be interesting considering I know they are making it, according to the director, like an epic-300 style film. The cast seems great and a lot of people are excited by Hopkins though I share bahiyya's concern. Gwyneth is amazing, as is Naomi and it'll be great for Keira to work with them I think.

And as far as the Duchess goes, it is her best performance to date and not even with Joe Wright involved- shock and awe! When I read the biography I knew Keira could do it justice and even if she doesn't get a nom this year due to the seriously tight race all around (which is nice, for once, when it comes to women in film) she can only go up from here.

Oooooo! i thought Silk was already out and available on DVD or is it?

Yes, yes it is. I heard it is boring but the scenery is beautiful and she is great in it. She rocks an American accent! I haven't seen it myself though.

I doubt the film will be as long as the play, though, they almost never are (which is one of the reasons that Kenneth Branagh's "Hamlet" is so singular) :flower:. And, if I remember it correctly, besides Cordelia's scene in the first act she doesn't have much to do until near the end. The other two daughters have at least twice as many lines. So it's a good way for Keira to further flex her acting chops without being overwhelmed. I'm pretty excited about the Paltrow-Watts casting! This makes up for Naomi not getting Narcissa Malfoy in the new Harry Potter .

I'm disappointed about Hopkings getting Lear. He's way past his acting prime and I'm so so so worried he's going to overdo it :ninja:. It's too bad they couldn't get Sir Ian McKellen to do it again (although that would be a bit repetitious since his Lear wasn't too long ago). Ciaran Hinds, maybe, if they aged him or John Noble, the man who played Denethor (the deranged King of Gondor) in "Return of the King".

yes i agree with you about it being a good place for keira to develop. Cordelia is still a pivotal character with some really meaty scenes but she won't have the same onus on her as paltrow/watts do. what i meant about it being difficult is that most directors never quite know what to cut and what to leave in. so you can end up with a film that is horribly disjointed because they are trying to cut down a 5 act play into a film of 2 hours or so. But still, with the right director and with someone who has a clear vision about where he wants to take the play, i have a feeling, and considering the cast, they will emphasise the family relationships/dynamics of the play, which will be interesting to watch.

i agree with you about hopkins, most of his recent films have been disappointing, despite their potential. And John noble would have been really good actually, now that you say it. His role as Denethor is kind of similar in some ways to Lear. Damn it, everytime people speculate about casts and get something better it always makes me wish it were true (like watts as narcissa malfoy! because whoever they cast had dark hair... i know they were going to dye it, but it's the principal of the thing!) :D :flower:

Me shocked!!!
You haven't seen one of Keira's movies:p
You're the biggest fan around...................^_^

I'm probably one of the few people in the world who didn't find it boring, I actually liked it a lot. I'd say it's a movie worth watching, but then again, I'm a fan of both Keira and Michael :p.

For Silk I liked how pretty the film looked and Keira's good in it, but on the whole the film just doesn't pull you in. It's more like it's being told to you, not performed. I don't know. I loved the end scene though. Granted I watched it while I had the flu and just had a death in the family so my opinion could have been slightly skewed.

On a fashion note: I'll take outtakes of her from any shoot. I don't care.

I read on ontd the UK version of The Duchess supposedly contained more scenes then the American one? I think US version cut out most of the sex scenes. Odd. We're so prude.

Not too hot, right? It's PG-13, so... I ordinarily wouldn't mind at all, but I'm going to see it with my mother, and I hate hate hate watching sex scenes with her.
Reply by carnivore at livejournal:
actually that's a good question, i don't know. i saw it in london and they might have recut the sex scenes before it came to the US. because the version i saw definitely wouldn't have gotten a PG13 rating.

Regarding The Edge of Love: how many scenes does Keira have? I'm hoping she's in alot. I can't wait till it's released in the US.
:D....
... for Silk: was Keira in alot of scenes?

As for The Duchess' sex scenes: damn! lol. US is so FREAKIN' pruuuuude.

oh the sex scene in the duchess is so good. i loved it. (the one with dominic, of course, not ralph. i love him too, but he was so mean in this movie!!!)

silk: keira was not in it much, the story revolves around her husband, and his relations with a japanese girl in the silk trade. she is in it a bit, but not alot, even though she got second billing :D

edge of love: she's in about 3/4 of movie, most of her scenes with sienna/the guy who played dylan thomas. also with cillian, but he goes off the war at the beginning, so she doesn't have a lot of screen time with him. edge of love is good, i recommend it. great costumes. ;)

peachesscream: i take it you saw The Duchess in Europe? Because i don't recall the sex scenes for the US version all that. Trust me, anything that has unforgettable sex scenes i'd remember.
:shifty:

hehehee i saw the european cut in australia.. we usually get the european cut of movies (like keira's pride and prejudice, we didn't have the ending that the americans got).

oh yes. believe me, if you saw the sex scene in the duchess you couldn't forget it even if you tried. ;)
