Lacoste...

Just had to get my dissenting opinion in... carry on... ;)
IMO Lacoste is one of the most boring brands ever, usually worn by even more boring people. It could have been OK years ago but today... please!
Anyway I'm sick of all those so-called status symbol logos  :yuk:  :yuk:  :yuk:  :yuk:

count me in... :yuk:

Thank god, and I thought I'd be the only one in this thread who doesn't care for it....

I feel like I got stuck in an 80's time warp reading this thread....

On the other hand I'm a big fan of Christophe Lemaire's own label.

What we call "preppies" you lot would likely call "Sloane Rangers."

Huge difference between a Sloane and a Scall (granted that difference is largely in accent and bank-account).

What you guys call a Pikey, we call a redneck.

I've gotten fairly good at comparative Slang-lish. I am a born American who lived for a while in the UK and keep in touch with some of my old friends over there, so I hear a lot of newer slang in passing from e-mails. When I was over there (1999-2000) I never heard anyone call anyone a Pikey, so I am thinking this one might have gained more popularity fairly recently.

The UK's quite a varied place though...where I live we just assume that anyone preppily dressed is a student and a 'pikey' or 'redneck' is a 'charv'. Go down south to fair Surrey and our 'charv' is now a 'townie' or 'rude-boy' back up North to fair Liverpool and our 'rude-boy' is now a 'scally'...

However Lacoste is a bit of a raavy charv brand I have to admit...

yeah, super preppy. the guys in my fraternity wear it with loafers, khakis and the polo with the collar flipped up. i've seen some of em even starching the collar so it stands up. i dunno, i can't pull off the collar up thing.

guys in pink lacoste polos -- drooooool
We call the guys who do the flipped up collar thing FUCKers:

Flipped Up Collar Kids :P

The really preppy ones are uber-FUCKers

I found it in one of my Vogue's magazines:
Vogue USA
November 1999

The croc has long since stepped off clay courts and fairways, making its way into country club lounges and Hamptons homes, and even onto the chicest streets in Los Angeles. Jim Moore, GQ's magazine's creative director and arguably the man responsible for Lacoste's latest resurrection, has about 50 crocs in his New York and Palm Springs closets. (Black is his color of choice, paired with Helmut Lang suits at the office and A.P.C. jeans on weekends.) "The Lacoste shirt will live for ever," Moore says. "With its classic roots and incredible quality, is the perfect icon shirt."

Just one morre thing: Never, ever let anyone tell you it's an alligator
.

i like lacoste polos. they fit really well and i love the fabric but they don't have much variety. i'm not the type to buy the same thing in different colors.. maybe i should. anyway, the polo is the only thing i like from lacoste.

also, i was surprised that people mentioned mentioned fred perry. my mom bought me a really great fitting tshirt by fred perry that reminded me of lacoste. i never heard of the brand then.. and i still don't hear anything about it. oh, except one time in the dean & deluca in soho, this girl at the register asked if my shirt was fred perry and i was like 'i duno' i don't even know where they sell it but i guess it's pretty common but not that popular?

WooHoo I'm a f*cker tooo!!
I love Lacoste, & what i love most is the feeling of te material (also the croc!) I grew up in Princeton crests, crocs, and polo men. So I'm fairly used to it though.

i think part of the reason lacoste has made such a comeback is because it first started at least two years ago with the whole indie scene. vintage lacoste, penguin, and le tigre were such hot commodity you could make a fortune on ebay. and just like everything else, it has finally trickled its way into the mainstream. i personally love the trend bc i was getting so tired of the quintessential prep wearing nothing but abercrombie.

and i think some of the non-polo-shirt stuff can be cute when incorporated into a larger more trendy look (like i think some of their striped tees and things would look ideal with the whole oversized marc jacobs look of this season)

i have a couple of fred perry polos too. i bought them before i even knew what fred perry was at this store that was trying to get rid of them cuz they weren't selling. i still like the cut of lacoste ones those.

I guess I'm a f*cker too! Haha. I love doing that, for some odd reason, and I like Lacoste polos because they fit well, but other than that, I don't wear exclusively them. It's a polo shirt thing for me. :)

Same here...the polos do fit well and they're a classic style... I think of it as an investment (I'll be able to wear them for years)...they fit better than Ralph Lauren polos (the fabric is longer in the back than in the front) and you can accessorize them and whatnot.

A lot of my family plays tennis so that's another reason we purchase a lot of Lacoste. I have a lacoste tennis outfit that I really like. :P

While helping my grandma clean out her closet I discovered a kelly green Lacoste windbreaker and I was in shock. Perfect conditon, but obviously old. Lucky me, we have the same size. SCORE!

I think that the Lacoste polos is very 80's, everybody had a polo in Denmark in the 80's. But i really like them and the brand Lacoste! I have 3 polos, and i love them! Btw you can by the croco and sew it on your polos.

 :crush:
