leopard print - classic or vulgar?

Do you mean why I think it wouldn't be worth buying? My understanding is that their quality is poor, but both also have worker rights issues out the wazoo. (See the fair trade thread for the latest H&M details.)

Ok, had those worker trade issues didn't exist - I'm sure dolce have some too, although we might not be aware of them.

What if, the quality was relatively comparable?

That's true, I had forgotten...Dolce & Gabbana is notorious for being in cahoots with the mafia in the production of their clothing; read such heartbreakingly tragic stuff about that in the book Gomorrah...:(

Oh Lord ... don't tell me I have to boycott another brand--the most recent one I bought from in fact! :( Leopard velvet Mary Janes ... let me just flaunt that for those who will be horrified

Oh Ta-ta! I'm so sorry I totally forgot, I didn't mean to be such a downer ... ... I boycott too, but I cannot say I boycott consistently ... I love your heels, they are so gorgeous. Please enjoy them to the fullest!!:heart:

No no, not a problem  Dolce has apologized for the anti-gay family stuff (another potential reason for a boycott), though I must say the apology is rather difficult to reconcile with the 'Mamma' theme and ad campaign, right? I'm interested in more info about this ... if you feel like PMing me. When I boycott, I do it right  I am curious now how common this is when it comes to 'Made in Italy.' (And we thought that was a good thing.)

I hate leopard print. I always associate it with the jersey shore because I was pregnant snookie one year for halloween and had a fake baby bump ,leopard print dress and those nasty slippers she would wear.It must be a new jersey thing.

I am loving leopard prints right now! It takes some work to find a really good print, but when you do it looks soooo nice:cool:

I loved your new leopard shoes by the way, Fashionista-ta!

I used to hate leopard print so much, but I never really thought about why I disliked it, just one of those things that are bothersome but you can't be bothered to figure out what it is. It was over 2 years ago when I concluded that I hated leopard print, and just like that, as with most things or people I strongly dislike, I was attracted :meow:.. so I got into it, starting with some huge furry leopard coat (go hard or go home lol).. which I still wear. I'm constantly surprised by how controversial it is.. I wonder if it's the size, the fact that it's leopard print or faux fur, or all of the above. Even in Berlin (or maybe because it was Berlin?.. tough one) people would just keep their eyes fixed on it, not a look of disapproval or attraction, just blank, like "why..". maybe because anything that celebrates excess (haha) is frowned upon, hard to know. I wore it again recently in California, to do groceries, and the guy at the register was like "wow, I like your pimp jacket". It's a bit funny, I can't imagine wearing that seriously as an attempt to look sensual or something along the lines, but should anyone wonder if there's a clothing equivalent of "Careless Whisper" out there..

^Fun to read, thanks for sharing MulletProof.

I still find animal prints vulgar and trashy and I highly doubt I will ever change my mind. :D

I swear, Mullet is that woman that will be in her 8-inch Miu Mius and win the Boston Marathon.

My BFF wears her grandmum’s YSL real leopard coat (I think it’s from the 60s/70s). I’ve had my eye on that coat since we were teens— and It think that’s the reason we’re still friends. It’s such a thing of beauty. No one would even think it’s real leopard because— is it even legal…????? She wears it so casually with ripped jeans— and just like Mullet, to the liquor store LOL

I wonder what happened to the OP’s designs…?

Leopard print will never die! I love :-)

I've noticed that the leopard print has become more popular, and some of the catwalk models look stunning, wearing it.

The leopard print leggings, have become synonymous with "trashy" women, living in a trailer park ect.

However, has this completely tarnished the print, because like i said, it can look very nice.

Isn't it all about perception? Sorry for getting philosophical.

Some leopard prints, usually in small doses, on a classy woman can look very nice. But they've been so over done and by everyone that they're just associated with trashy people. I'm not a fan of animal prints but I have seen this one Dior couture dress with leopard print and this JPG leopard print gown made with beads that I thought were nice

A touch of trashy can be a good thing. So maybe it is trashy, but in a healthy amount...

Normally I deplore leopard print, any animal print on the whole turns me off, but it's use in the last Dries van Noten was stunning. I'm actually loving some of the coats and skirts and stoles done up in the print, he handled the print well, and all of his pieces are very elegant. I can handle leopard print when he does it, his work is beautiful!

Leopard print for me is very much like tye-dye! Simply cannot fathom it. Besides, it's got that freaky element to it which I cannot ignore, lol. And it's so hard to incorporate into my wardrobe. I think that's mainly my problem with it. I've got no issue with a Tom Ford woman in a knee-length leopard print coat, black sheer tights, and gold 70's platformed heels. Patsy Stone immediately comes to mind, lol. Women can easily get away with it, men not so much, I think.

Some time back my gran showed me family pictures of her kids on holiday circa early 60's. She not only dressed my aunt and her sister in identical one-shouldered bathing suits, even though they werent twins, but it was in leopard print. Because according to her 'they were in South Africa, you see'. The material looked very flimsy, and it hand-made in haste. I can only imagine the public outrage now if parents sent their 5/6-year olds to the beach in one-shouldered leopard print swimsuits, lol.

it depends on how and how much. Dolce does their classic black dresses with a leopard lining and it's a nice touch, with the tight fit, silky exterior and all. a schlubby wide shirt with a leopard print (favored by old, out of shape housewives everywhere) is NAGL.

for men, Tisci did it quite right with his S/S 11 collection. the leopard print had an almost gold look and color, which went beyond regular leopard print and became almost a metallic texture.
