Louis Vuitton S/S 2016 Paris

I will never deny Nicholas's talent but I was never a huge fan of his last several collections at Balenciaga and frankly I've yet to be impressed with his Vuitton.

And this collection makes me wonder if his best days are behind him.

Co-sign.

Yeah... nothing else to add.. this collection is rubbish.

Lot of the clothes have a Hot topic vibe lol. NG is best when he does retro fitted futuristic clothes, the clothes look more real. Here they come across as costumey. I think only Harajuku girls can pull these looks off.

I really love the new Louis Vuitton. This is so awesome Nicholas is beyond cool.

The more I see it, the more I dislike it.

As someone mentioned earlier it's just way too on the nose and literal an interpretation of a "digital universe." So cliche, so silly, so obvious.

And I tried watching the video and I just didn't have any patience for it...I hated the set and music's attempt to make things feel dramatic and give the presentation weight, but then the clothes just seemed to lack any kind of personality and the models carried themselves without any authority, so the whole thing just ended up falling flat, to me.

I like what Ghesquiere has done at Vuitton so far...I like that he seemed to have relaxed a bit and opened up to a more casual attitude thus far, but this just is no good. It's costume! No finesse.

It looks like a horrible mixed derivative from his best collections at Balenciaga, it's not even "space age", he did it better with those C3PO leggings and the "warrior/tribal" collections. It's a surreal experience for me, it looks like a derivative of the highstreet derivatives of his own best pieces for Balenciaga...man, this is mind0bending for me but probably not in the way NG intended with his dated version of cyber.

I still can't get over how bad this is. The clothes are zero interesting and most of them are really, but really, ugly. This is his worst collection so far for the brand. It just feels try-hard, and Nicolas never felt try-hard before. There are great materials, but what he did with them is completely lackluster.

His tenure at LV has been a total letdown. His last years at Balenciaga weren't the best of his career and I was upset with them, as he could have done much better, but now I wish he was as bad as then...

And I blamed Isabel for his bad collections at Balenciaga, I thought he had so much pressure, that he felt uncomfortable and didn't even bother anymore... But now he is free yet he does even worse.

Plus, the inspiration here is too literal. There is barely no filter. It doesn't feel cool. The clothes are not even desirable. And the shoes are nasty-looking.

Something is off. I love some of the textiles and details but most of the individual pieces fall flat for me. It does feel like he's still figuring out where he wants to take the brand. Am I the only one that finds those white bubble skirts completely random and out of place for this collection? I'm really scratching my head at those particular pieces and the collection.

Better luck next time maybe?

Saying zero interesting, for real?:ermm: The material treatments are really luxury. He's doing streetstyle so what? He started from there in Balenciaga and constantly went for it, like you don't know about that.
Only thing I'm not sure is how many people who can afford these are buying 90s goth girl style and Sailor Moon. But as a collection, I really can't tell why you guys think it's worse than all previous seasons. They all stay in the same good(not great I agree) quality imo.
Well, if you look for Balenciaga 2008-2009, obviously it's not your cup of tea, sorry. Better luck find that replacement soon.

Finally took some time to look at this, and I was initially preferred to dislike it based on a few quick glimpses and some of the posts here. I'm glad to have taken the time to go over this: It's a great collection.

Had he omitted the platform sandals, the vile monogramed patchwork leathers and the juvenile Anime pink hair, tiaras and makeup design, things would have flowed much much much stronger.

As a presentation, I love the Tron soundtrack, the obvious cyber-Anime/ Cowboy Be-Bop references— and even traces of a videogame I played back in 1999 called Tanaka with the impressive, grid set. As for the designs, I thought it was a sophisticated and intricate-looking sportswear offering when viewed as separates: The laser-cut leather jackets, multi-paneled gladiator skirts, chain-link tops and tanks are as beautiful as they are interesting-looking. And it’s all so accessible but I can’t imagine how this would be easily copied by high street.

(BTW, watching the video— are the new class of audience that lacking in manners these days, or has it always been like this? Even before Ncolas could make it back stage, they’re trampling past him like a herd of crude wildebeests on their migration route without seemingly a nod to the person that they were just applauding moments ago. Sheesh. I guess the mad rush to snatch a cab for the next show takes top priority over consideration and decent manners nowadays. Really deplorable.

You know, when I first started working in the fashion industry, I was worried I wasn’t refined and sophisticated enough. Then my friends and I would experience such rudeness and horrible manners that we couldn't help but laugh about.)

My problem with the collection is not so much that it's ugly (though it is quite abominable), but more so that it's cheesy.

It's a very cliche idea of the digital world. Too literal, way too on the nose. You'd think would have known better.
agree. cheesy is the right word. also agree with you that he hasn't had strong collections for...almost 7 years!

Really? His first Vuitton collection was very strong and even if they were very quiet, his last few collections at Balenciaga were strong.
Spring 2012 was very very strong and very focused.

Just because he doesn't do robotic legs and florals armours doesn't mean that it wasn't strong.

Spring 2011 was a very strong collection too.

Maybe i'm not objective because i bought his Balenciaga's clothes but it's not fair to say that he hasn't had a strong collection in years...

Every time Ghesquiere shows a collection I think of you. And it's been a long while since I thought there was anything to strike your fancy.

Oh, Caffeine bought them, too...^_^

I got such a Wang vibe in the beginning. This is a crappy collection from him, but I'm happy he took a different turn and did something different, and I understand why. I think Nicolas himself has caught on to the fact that everyone is copying him nowadays.

 Thank you dear. Precisely...
I actually think that Marc Jacobs' Vuitton was easier to wear...and some of the details and material they used were quite nice.
.....and what's up with the huge exposed zippers? How can these be remotely desirable?
I recall that his Balenciaga collections in mid/late 2000s took on the archives but the archives didn't seem to be baggage. Now he seems to try very hard to incorporate Vuitton's little details...it just feels to me that he is less relaxed. Things may be more interesting if he tries to forget about Vuitton for one season...

We can agree to disagree...
Now that I think about it, FW2009 was actually very nice.

Marc's Vuitton was so unbelievably well made - so much ease, so much finesse, so much refinement. I can recall seeing his finale all-black collection in stores and it was all so breathtaking...beaded, and fringed and trimmed within an inch of its life, but it couldn't have been lighter or more refined. And the neat little black jackets were tailored and finished to perfection.

Ghesquiere's Vuitton is shockingly clunky in real life. His first collections were so stiff - some of the leather and tweed shift dresses felt and looked like sandwich boards! So heavy! So chunky! So hard! And lots of fabrics that felt cheaply synthetic.

Yes Marc Vuitton was really great. His only collection that didn't translate well IMO was his spring 2013. It was well made but so difficult to wear!

Totally right about Nicolas's early clothes for Vuitton. I have some pieces from his first three collections so far. They are great but overall the fact that he tries to mix his world and the craftmanship of Vuitton in his clothes makes them stiff.
Half of the spring 2015 collection was really stiff.

I think the resort and this one are going to be more wearable.

But on a side note, i really think that his bags are more successful than Marc's bags. I hated Marc's bags as much as i love Nicolas ones.

I think it's a decent collection. I will say, some comments on this thread come across as borderline ignorant or racist. Remember kids- the world is LARGE and this is just ONE of MANY collections from Nicholas to come.

At any case- this collection felt like the idea of what the future could or would be in the mid-late 90s. Sure, it referenced things digital, etc etc etc--- but tell me who doesn't use a smart phone (and iphone or an android, etc) and the internet became an evolving massive experience that hit the world by storm in the early 2000s.

Sure, this collection may or may not satisfy everybody, but his message was crystal clear in this. I get some of his flavor/design aesthetics from Balenciaga circa 2010, but that element of the future and now is there with him at LV....

...now, I only wish the mens collection was just as good....

Indeed. I still recall how shocked I was when I looked at Marc's Vuitton many years ago. Many details could be found in Marc's own collections, but the details were enhanced and refined...in a French way (not saying that the US MJ was inferior). I now regret that I didn't buy more.

I tried on Ghesquiere's SS2015 collection and I agree with you on how clunky it was. Somehow his Balenciaga sharpness was gone too. The material may be much to blame: we seem to see lots of very thick and rough fabrics as opposed to silk and cashmere. I wonder if he still asks the bag people to think of clothes because sometimes the clothes look like such :P
