Lupita Nyong'o

While her magazine editorial career has flown off the charts, her career, surprisingly, has not since her Oscar win for 12 years. I know it's been just a year - but of the three films she has signed for since then, only one of them she actually appears in, and even that is a supporting role (Queen of Katwe.) The Jungle Book is voice-only and the rumor for Star Wars is that she is also merely a voice or motion-capture. I expected bigger things but I was naïve perhaps - Hollywood isn't ready.

That's bothering me as well, T-rex. I remember Jennifer, Rooney and Keira were all swamped with offers after their first nominations. Perhaps Lupita's team is carefully assessing her moves? Still, a worthless rom-com or thriller here and there wouldnt hurt. Her print work is truly in a class of it's own. Which black female actress can secure a UK cover, or US Vogue without a film to promote? Beauty endorsement or not.

Well, there have been plenty of actors who've experienced an Oscar slump ... but if I were an actress, I would probably be very interested in having my own production company.

I really hope she doesn't suffer the Oscar curse...winning and not working for years or working on crappy/ forgettable crap.

That's actually a good option, especially for Lupita. That way she can exact control over the material that she'd perform in etc. It's a very popular option nowadays, which is worrying in itself. I think she's got a great standing with the general public at this stage, so she should probably engage in something flighty and commercial. This might just be me, but I dont want her to be one of those inaccessable 'serious' actresses who's so immersed with their own craft. She's got a great sense of humour. Give us a rom-com, preferabbly interracial. A pairing with Leto would strike gold right now, but I wouldnt be partial to Franco or any of the other leading men. Just stay away from Adam Sandler though, ugh.

I think what doesn't help her case is that 12 YAS was her first role. Jennifer, Rooney and Keira had already been acting and already had projects in production by the time their nominations rolled around.

I can't think of many first time/first acting role winners working in great projects today.

She's so damn gorgeous  . Lancome couldn't have chosen a better spokesperson.

The Harper's Bazaar cover and editorial are gorgeous too.

every time a new picture surfaces, it´s always an amazing one :o:wub:

She's made me interested in Lancome campaigns. Did Testino shoot this? Flawless!

I've just bought my copy of Harper's Bazaar, for the 2nd time in my life, lol.

One of my best buys for sure :)

Picking up my copy today. It is so refreshing to see someone like Lupito on covers of major magazines. I two young teens last year, both African-Americans, literally squeal when they picked up a copy of Lupita's Vogue cover. I hope the standard of beauty is changing.

I only ever buy Harper's limited editions through the V&A museum, due to their lackluster newsstand covers, but couldnt risk missing out on Lupita. Bought the Waitrose special edition, which used the shot with the red top as the cover and I must say, so much more effective in person. Such an arresting shot, you cannot look past it. I'll be eyeing the ABC audits to see how well this fared on the newsstands. Her Vogue cover turned roughly the same amount as Kim & Kanye's, which is pretty good considering it was a July issue.
