I am not suggesting that she doesn't have the right to do whatever she wants with her own hair, which of course she does. I am saying that IMO straightening her hair would not be a good style strategy for a variety of reasons. And also that I'm irked by the many suggestions I see here on tFS that seem to want to press celebrities toward the norm, most particularly when their whole claim to fame is existing beautifully outside the norm.
Exactly. And while I'm sure it was meant without malice, there are a lot of cultural and societal implications to take into consideration when suggesting a black girl straighten her hair. She's proven that her natural hair is versatile already...not to mention, straightening black hair often comes with unhealthy consequences so I think it's just good to be conscious.
