MacBook

You know what really sucks? I freaking dropped my mackbook pro today and dented the side of my mac and boy let me tell you, it hurts :( So I thought I'd share my pain with you :(

That happened to me as well it did not do anything to the actual operation on the plus side.

unfortunately i think the actual hardware on the macs is not particularly durable...

i've had to replace the keyboard part once before and i probably should again because it cracked where i rest my wrists while typing (if that makes sense)..
i've just been living with the crack..

and i know a bunch of people who have similar bumps/warping like puma's..
like you said, sophia at least the inside stuff still works..

Firefox has the tabs at the top as well. By dedicated home key, I mean that there is a button to hit, to go to the home page. You don't have to do control + shift + h, to get there. And Safari does not have the same type of bookmark menu, you can to enter a whole new page to see all your bookmark folders (mine are divided for school work) so that's a hassle.

You should download the latest Safari then, it has the tabs waaay on top (unlike firefox, where you still have a dedicated title bar), and a home button, and a bookmarks menu-drop-down thingie just like firefox. Which version do you have? Because I don't recognize any of the problems you mention.

ChrissyM: The white plastic model have been known to crack:

I think the new alu unibody is pretty durable though. Of course it's not going to survive all kinds of stuff (like dropping it). It's like climbing over a fence in a Dior cotoure dress, when it ripps, it doesn't mean it's poorly made ;)

Puma: I feel your pain :( sucks so bad when stuff like that happens. I remember running to the tube after school, and my bag broke and went "kabooom" into the floor with my macbook in it. I nearly shrieked. Luckily it was in a polstered sleeve so it got out of it okey, but stuff like that sucks.

egads! just as soon as i am warming up to my new macbook, they go and essentially do away with the entire line. all the new macbooks are now macbook pro(which i wanted initially but couldn't afford)...but it's now 13 in. pro,15 and 17...and the standard macbook is now just the white version. annoying as hell.

and the systems look upgraded from mine as well which aggravates me even more.

^ That's why with apple it sometimes pays to read the rumour sites before buying. They're generally pretty good at predicting when a product is going to be upgraded or a new one launched, it informed me to wait a few weeks for a better macbook when I got mine 18 months ago.

i guess apple updates the product line every half year. once in june and then in november?
they're also releasing a new iPhone in a few days

i know...apple is really fickle. but when you need the computer at that moment sometimes it's difficult to wait round too long. hopefully i'll be able to get one of these models soon. i had been planning anyway when i can afford it,to give my mum this one when i get a pro.

I'm very cautious with my new macbook because I have a tendency to be 'rough' with the things I own. My Jimmy Choo Ramona is pretty wrecked, so I'm determined to be good to my macbook! However, the unibody does pose some problems from what I understand. Like if something happens to the screen, the whole top has to be replaced, you can't just pop the screen out. The hinge between my keypad and screen seems to 'stick' occasionally as well when it's been in the same position for awhile so I hope that's just normal...

help! i'm so undecided about whether to get the white macbook or the 13 in macbook pro! any suggestions? i want to take advantage of the student special before it ends in sept.

i got a white one. it's from the last generation of macbooks. the performance is the same like the new white one, cause i took the middle-prized ;)
have to say, i'm quite satisfied with it. i don't use any programs that would require a superior performance.
maybe the frame of the pro is more stable cause it's aluminium. i'd say go for the one that meets your requirements best

Pro is much faster! Also the new design is superb with incredible screen resolution. I love my current white macbook but I dream about the 13" Macbook Pro. ;)

I want this laptop for forever! I want one!

Bought 13" pro two weeks ago, although haven't had a chance to use it yet because my macbook is waiting for me in the UK and I'm so far away now.
Cannot wait to start using it though.
Was also thinking whether I should get the white one or the aluminium, but pro is much nicer. Looks better, the screen is better. Everything is better :D

thanks for the help guys! im still undecided about it all... im kind of leaning towards the pro but i dont want to feel pressured to buy the pro just because it is the newest one out there if the white one will get the job done and is basically just as good as the pro...

Obviously, the macbook and the macbook pro have different specs so they're not going to be the same. the question is would the difference make a difference for what you are using the laptop for. if you just open one, two windows for things like pages, safari, itunes, then macbook should do it. if you're doing ample photoshop stuff, then macbook pro.
