No!!! All you seriously need to run thos apps is 1GB of ram in the HD and enough GB of storage space for the application to save itself onto the computer.

I have :

Windows XP - 1GB RAM - 11" hp mini laptop
Windows Vista - 2GB RAM - PC (Normal Computer)
Windows 7 -1GB RAM - PC
Snow Leopard 10.6 (or whatevers the newest version) - 2GB RAM - 13" Macbook

I have gone through Photoshop elements, ALL Adobe CS3 programs (Dreamweaver, Flash, Photoshop etc) and now I have ALL photoshop CS4 programs on each and every computer of mine. They all work 100% fine, no lag.

PLEASE for geebus's sake DO NOT buy a computer because its labelled as 'fast, really good, blah blah blah.' This especially applies for Macs. I made that mistake when I bought mine. The only good thing about it is that it's pretty and that it's a 'Mac.' Actually, in my opinion, I enjoy windows better when it comes to using my adobe programs. (I am studying a multimedia course right now in Highschool)

Im in no way meaning to Mac bash, but take it from me guys, I've used linux a few times and all the Os's above. Leapord is by far the worst. Its alot harder to modify the files and the files are in weird locations.

They try and advertise it as some holy grail computer. No offense but all the computer geeks out there who think Leopard is the best OS mustn't have used the other ones

If you are worried about speed, I suggest cleaning your pc every week with disk cleanup, then Disk defragment. If your computer is still slow, do a system reformat to erase the HD to get it (almost) clean; And brand new.

I am actually not sure about Mac. I just reformat every month and back up all my information with an external HD.

Well i am at art school, where i have to use those 3 somethings 4 programma's at the same time.
The problem is that i have a acer now, and ever time it doesn't work.. and i have enough space and i cleanup my disk all the time.. but it doesn't get faster..

i have been to normal store where they sell dell, hp, toshiba ect and every time they tell me to get a mac.. and the don't even sell mac there.. so..

i have to use the program autocad, and i know that it doesn't work on mac pro, only if you use bootcamp.

If you switch to bootcamp for windows, does it mean that you never get the normal versie of mac back? they layout and stuff like that.. because i don't wanna have a mac if i have to put windows on it.

You can't erase the mac OS. Bootcamp means you have both, and can choose which to start every time you restart your computer. Quite wonderful.

And egghead: I dunno what to say to that. You are probably right, if you are prepared to run disc scans, defrags (which usually takes hours), anti-virus scans, reformat every month (!!!!), spend time fixing problems, customizing system files, installing drivers etc. then yes, a PC is a way better investment. Unless you live by "time is money" OR do not concider above-mentioned things something you'd gladly spend your spare time on, then you would do wise in concidering if what that 100$ difference is worth to you. For me, it's easily worth it, because in my opinion then fixing things are a hassle. I know very well how to do it, I was raised with parents, a dog and a computer, but that doesn't mean I enjoy doing it. I'd much rather spend those extra cash on buying something that will simply work, with a huge open community there to help you when things go wrong (they do, from time to time, of course). If you spend half the time you'd be fixing your PC working, then you'll soon have earned enough for the pricedifference

Of course, each to his own, I know several people that dislikes macs because, well, they don't crash. People who are like car-fanatics, that loves to sit in the dark of the night with a cup of coffee and try to find the problem why their sound card and their CPU doesn't get along, refuses to cooperate and mostly spend their time cussing at eachother, and bullies the little RAMs, that didn't do anything wrong to begin with. If you are one of those people who enjoy that, then you can get much better along with a PC than a MAC. If you aren't, then a mac might pay the price-difference in how efficient you can spend your time, both in hours saved solving problems and the streamlined workflow you can get through a mac.

Mac users are everything exept computer geek, they just want a machine which works well straight out of the box, which does not need anything to be installed, and which never needs to be open to add or to fix anything...

for people in that category, there is just nothing better than a Mac, i use mac for 10 years, and still not sure exactt what "to reformat" the disk is, as i never had to do it even just once...

If you use 4 adobe programs I suppose you might get lag on a 1GB RAM computer. I am always using Fireworks, Dreamweaver and Photoshop at the same time as my projects revolve around the 3, on 1GB RAM. How many GB of RAM do you have?

OH A good graphics card helps too! (or so my super tech friend said) I wasn't quite sure what she meant by that though. I dont think its drastic though, because my brother has a computer specifically for gaming and has a good graphics card while mine is just the one that came with the computer and I don't get lag on the same games.

Ive always contemplated whether to split the HD on my mac to have both windows and Mac, but yeah, what is the point of having a mac if your gonna put windows on it? You can get most programs in the Mac version now anyways. Sorry, never heard of autocad. Is that one of those CAD drawing programs?

Macs are considered 'easier' but honestly, I don't see the difficulties a Windows or Linux has.

ElectricAlyce : I have had my PC for about 2-3 years now, and its gone through Vista to Windows 7 and I think I disk cleanup about once every 3 months and reformat twice a year. I also download alot of things that probably contain virus's but I think the Kaspersky fixes that. But yeah, for some reason it is working 100% fine, NEVER gotten the blue screen of death. Ive treated the computer pretty badly too, NEVER crashed on me. (installing lots of files at the same time while playing a game or webbing with lots of pages up etc) I had my mac for about 5 months and it froze on me twice I am sure that doesn't happen to alot of people though.

And in my opinion, Macs are harder to use .__. I dont know why. I must be the only one

So yeah, all the time I've spent reformatting, changing my OS etc was really nothing in my opinion because it shouldn't and has never taken more than 15-20 minutes each time. Im a kid who has no life and is still in highschool so I guess thats alot of time for people with jobs.

Fritmayo: Yeah, the stupid service packs are kind of annoying when it comes to windows. I dunno, I've just had rocky times with my mac and none of my other computers had done anything like that.

Of course, if you don't want to customise your computer or spend time learning how to do certain tasks by all means, get a mac. Just keep in mind that honestly, you dont need to learn much to be able to use a windows to its full potential

There is a program for macbooks called MacJanitor (Freeware). It pretty much does the mac's version of disk defragmenting.

well today i am a owner of a mac book pro 15' 2,66 GHz and i love it!
its really not as windows.. so i have to figure it out.. but i think it will be very good!

only i am not quit sure about the garage band and stuff like that..

What kind of msn do you guys use? I've used both aMSN and MSN:Mac since the beginning.. I like aMSN because it's faster at displaying contacts info but I only use it for the webcame feature.. the rest of the time I'm on MSN:Mac since it displays your music player and.. just feels cleaner, less pirate .. what brings me here.. is this.. .. I couldn't log in for an entire day this week and today, I logged in and I could see not just people with their regular (available/busy/brb/etc) status but also offline people .. I'm not sure if this is only new for some of us or anyone else is experiencing the same 'feature'.. I find it extra creepy and.. I HATE IT.

eta: aMSN is doing this too, I see.

i use adium! it combines msn, icq, aim and a couple other messengers as well, it runs better than just msn on mac and i really like it!

The only real bugger about Macs is that they don't come with internal disk cleanup softwares. It's such a hassle to go find ones.

you can get the student discount in store also just bring in your school id. i believe that is only good for university students

I'm a windows user, so if someone who used to have a pc, can you tell me what a MAC it is like compared to a regular pc?

I've had MACs in the past but those were desktops and like way back in the day.

chel - that service isn't available in many regions, including where I live.

Caitlin C - Honestly PCers will bash on mac like crazy and make them sound like a completely different species. I found it incredibly easy to adjust from PC to mac. Honestly I didn't even need time adjusting. It's not very different. I actually find it is easier to navigate through things using a mac though. Don't listen to the pc-freaks that say crap like "mac has no right click" ...etc.
There are no mac sales where I live, but if you wanted one for cheaper you could purchase a second-hand one... Personally I'd never do it, but a lot of my friends have!
