Pop star Madonna has accused American citizens of being afraid of electing a female as president of the United States.

The singer believes while other countries embrace female leadership, Americans are frightened by the concept.

She explains: "In Europe and Asia and elsewhere, women have ruled over millions; it's not an abstract or frightening or out-of-the-box concept.

"But in America, men are still afraid of women. And women, I don't think, trust women. I find that amazing."

The star, who famously portrayed Argentine political icon Eva Peron, would support senator Hilary Clinton if she chose to run for president.

She adds: "She should go for it, definitely. I don't think maybe now is her time, or the Democrats' time, but she should certainly go for it.

"You've got to start somewhere in terms of women leading the US."

^I'm not a fan of Madonna at all, I think she talks a lot of hypocritical shite, but if I forget it's her who made this point, I totally agree with it. ^_^

I think a woman would get voted for if one would run, but no one has yet!
IMHO; I'm only 16.

(But also excited that I'll be 18 for the next election. yay.)

As a European, taking chunks out America is more than a little easy, so in America's defence: obviously there are parts of Asia that don't even have democratic rule, but less obviously plenty of European countries are deeply gender-divided. When was the last time you saw a female president, senator or prime minister in France?

now that's convincing.

She forgot to mention CANADA and our past female Prime Minister! WOO for us. Now as I put my pride aside...

She's CRAVING attention IMO.

And I don't just say this because of this statement.

Without wanting to wave the French flag , there are around 55 female senators in France at present , the last female prime minister in France was Edith Cresson (1991 - that's more recent than the last time you had a female prime minister in most European countries) and a female president is just something that you would hardly find in the history of most countries in the world...But I do agree with you about the fact that sexism in politics is not confined to the U.S and is a world wide reality case...

That says it all. :innocent:

I trully believe that Hillary will be the next US president!

...after having a monkey for like 8 years maybe people will finally open up their eyes!

As obnoxious as she may or may not be, she's absolutely right.

Do you not remember how long she lasted? 4 months!! and she was only temporary! It was more a joke then anything else.

I do, but it was her own fault she lasted that long. The fact that we've HAD a female Prime Minister and that we can again is what is being discussed. It was her own decisions that had it last that long and there isnt anything we can do about that. But the pride most Canadians have that a woman was even elected is still strong.

Did anyone see "Canada's Next Great Prime Minister"? She was there but anyway BRIAN MULRONEY? Considered great? ... and does anyone else find Ben Mulroney's smile annoying?

I know that... are any of our Prime Ministers? No.

It was Brian Mulroney's fault for the short term IMO. He left the party broken into a million peices for her to clean up. Honestly, who COULD successfully follow that up? I think Canada was just sick of the conservative government so we gave her a hard time... apparently the sickness held strong since we've just ended YEARS of Liberal leadership to a quick Harper defeat after the scandal. Same story over a longer period of time. Though I do prefer Liberal to Conservative any day, honestly.

I just seriously hope that Stronach comes nowhere NEAR leading this country as I hear she was running for head of the Liberal party or something like that the other day.
