A long sleeve jacket is cut from a zipped nylon travel garment bag. The fabric and all details of these bags
are used to construct this jacket. Its lining is used
to create the jacket
sleeves. The original
piping, catches, hooks,
zips and handle are all maintained on the finished article. The bag's shoulder strap is now the jacket's belt.

Lengths cut from old silk scarves are plaited by hand
to create a dress. Vintage silk headscarves are firstly bleached and then cut in
thin strips along the weave
of the fabric. The resulting silk ribbons are asymmetrically and unevenly plaited by hand to create a long dress and a top with a defined shoulder line. Segments cut from print fluorescent 'smiley' scarves are randomly applied to the garments.
Dress : 75 hours
Three hand painted oil canvases, of varying
subjects and each removed
from its stretcher, are combined to create a sleeveless dress. Each painting is washed, softened and further treated to
re-fix its oils and gesso. They are then lined in silk taffeta and simply folded around the body. The form
and volume of the dress is obtained by folding rather than cutting into the canvases.

A shawl is held in place by strings of costume
jewellery beads to create a backless dress. The fringed edge print shawl is draped directly on a dressmakers dummy. The folds that form
the dress are held in place
on the body by four lengths
of vintage beads that form
one necklace.

Pieces of luggage from the 1980's are entirely encased
in leather which are
recovered with reptile skin bags. The exterior of a suitcase is covered in soft leather in such a way as to respect their every form and detail. Vintage handbags in various snake skins are opened, laid flat and
applied to the leather on
the exterior of the luggage. The luggage is lined by
hand in natural coloured leather featuring
elasticised compartments in the same material.

Four men's printed rock

These T-Shirts are firstly washed and bleached and then cut vertically to create shreds of cotton jersey that brings an abstract quality
to their original logos. The loose ribbons of fabric are delicately attached together by hand at the bust

Vintage sports bags are
used as the fabric of a blouson. A few sports bags
are required to create one zipped jacket. All of the original details of the
bags - zips, pockets,
straps and piping - are maintained to embellish
the final garment.
Blouson : 57 hours
A trench coat is tailored
from calico shopping bags. Fabric shopping bags,
bearing the logos of the
shops from which they came, are bleached back to a
camel colour. Up to forty
of these bags are required
to create one coat. Even
the storm flaps, belts and belt-loops are cut from the bags.
Trenchcoat : 42 hours
A few hand painted oil canvases, depicting
pastoral scenes and
animals, create a
waistcoat. Each painting is removed from its stretcher, softened and coated to fix
its oils and gesso. The paintings are superimposed
in places to create the garment for which the raw edges of the canvases are
now visible. The finished waistcoat, once finished,
is lined in poplin.
Waistcoat : 25 hours
Vintage basketball style sneakers in white canvas
are opened to create a waistcoat. Once their
rubber soles have been
removed the sneakers are opened out, laid flat and assembled on a tailor's
dummy to create this
garment. The original laces randomly hang from the
metal eyelets and serve to close the waistcoat where necessary.
Waistcoat : 22 hours
A bathrobe is created using vintage unused bath towels
of varying weaves and
motifs. Before assembly by hand as a bathrobe on a tailor's dummy these towels are firstly overdyed in
dark colours to create a patchwork of textures,
stripes and embroidered emblems.
Robe : 27 hours
Fine hand rolled strips of cotton jersey recreate in relief the original logo on vintage T-Shirts. The
t-shirts are bleached and
then overdyed in grey. Thin strips, cut from other
T-Shirts of varying colours,
are hand rolled, pieced together and hand stitched
to recreate the original
logo on the chest of the shirt.
