It was the best show and the best collection from NYFW but also one of Marc's best ever. A true fashion moment. It's one of those shows that you wish you had the chance to attend just to see these extraordinary pieces up close. He's a brilliant designer, a true genius, thous he sometimes falls into the traps of theatrics and gimmicks which overshadows his talent or simply cover for a lack of really interesting pieces.
With this collection however he used the theatrics, the gimmicks and his insanely good imagination to benefit and highlight the fantastic clothes. The work on some pieces looks incredible and on a leve that you would not expect to see in RTW or in NY. I just love how rich the collection is in terms of inspirations but also offerings. The silhouettes are interesting yet not too exgerarted, the work on proportions is fantatsic with those long skirts and long capes or coats. I absolutely loved the use of fur and the sex spectre that haunts this collection without being too provocative or in your face. The subtlety makes it even sexier. I also love how strong and realistic this Marc Jacobs woman is. One of the rare times when she's not playing dress or taking herself way too seriously but actually looks fantastically elegant.
I see Isherwood's Berlin and Cabaret with the sex , other looks remind me of the Victorian era or the Russian revolution when the aristocracy left for western europe. Yet there's also perfectly tailored dresses for the perfect 50s American houswives or pantsuits that screamed Katherine Hepburn. This collection is a feist for the eyes and such a great source of inspiration. I don't think fashion should always and only be about fantasy. We need reality but this is such a brilliant tribute to Diana Vreeland. We can still be impressed by fashion and experience it to the fullest. With opulence being the most delicious taste.
