Gucci F/W 2015.16 Milan

I'm seriously intrigued as to how Gucci will play this collection out and how this collection will turn out for them. Will this attract new customers and a new demographic? Will this alienate their previous demographic? Will loyal customers depart? How will the ad campaigns look? Is this a brand new Gucci, a brand revolution at some sort? How will Gucci further promote this collection? Will they use celebrities to wear these? One thing though, I'm quite certain that we won't be seeing any or much Gucci dresses on any events (red carpet or not) this season. Before the pieces of Gucci under Frida were red carpet ready and were worn by almost every celebrity out there.. but I'm not that quite sure with this one. I highly even doubt that J.Lo, a Gucci girl, will wear this.

Ideally, his second collection will most likely answer these questions. If he reverts back to the old Gucci aesthetic then most probably sales went down after this one, but if he still does the same style and direction then most probably all went well or if not, nothing's changed.

This is a really bold move to be quite honest. I am not defending the collection whatsoever, I still find it distasteful, tacky, and cheap, but I commend his audacity to take on something different other than what the brand has already established. Because if I were in his place, I'd stick to the established image of Gucci because if my risk (this risk) doesn't pay off then my job is on the line.

Honest question: is this collection referencing the beginnings of the label? cause I can´t relate the child like vibe with the Gucci I´ve known for the last 20 years or so.

yes, and I'll be one of them.

This is really awful. I'm always for a change and new chapter and such but this is such a mess. I want to like it but first of all I want glamour, sex appeal, clothes women would actually wear, not teenagers/girls in early 20s. Also I cannot like because it's too all over the place. I wish it'd at least look more like a real collection, not random clothes put together.

You talk about customers but who knew that Saint Laurent clients can go so rock'n'roll? Sales tell everything. +25%. Its huge.
I dont think this collection will be so successful but I think it will show some ups because some pieces look more unique than previous 2 Frida's collections.
But I agree men collection was terrible...

Several reviews said a Gucci woman would love it... they called it "sexy"... I know they have to say it because Gucci ads bring revenue. But... If I was a Gucci woman, I'd never step inside the store again. It was seriously off-putting, frightening, depressing (it's like the light left my life forever) and so cheap. :( And the hobbit shoes... A Gucci woman who grew on Ford's and Giannini's offerings would NEVER wear THESE shoes (which also reminded me of earlier Rochas idea), unless, of course, she is into the Lord of the Rings or loves fancy sleepers... I'd like to see another collection before I give up on Gucci completely, but so far it's pretty bad. I wish they got Ford back.

I can't say I am an expert, but from a few late 1960-1970s shots I've got, this collection looks nothing like Gucci.

^Thanks. I remember people going crazy with Dior but looking back, the new designs just went back to the label´s roots... I was wondering if it´s the same with Gucci now.

… where is the design? All I see are plain normal garments. Just that.

The funny thing is that they fired Frida because Gucci needed more exciting shows and we get this. Maybe I don’t understand the sensibility of the new times… But I don’t want to, either.

And I’m going to say something I hate hearing, but if this was a small American brand no one would care…

I forgot to mention how embarrasing and RIDICULOUS was seeing Salma wearing the clothes before they were shown in the catwalk. She looked like a complete and total lummox.

What on earth is this mess?! After three minuets of eleven I have to turn off the video... I miss Frida so much:cry:

As a long time Gucci fan, I just can't bear to look at this.
This makes me miss Frida. And that's saying A LOT.

this guy should be doing film costumes...
the styling the colours the textures...they're all magnificent...
all of this would look great on film...

real life?
not so much...

:innocent:

Even though some pieces are really really cute the overall collection is a mess. Not even a hot one. And this is not what Gucci was about. I get that they want to rebrand and revamp but this is remotely the SL rebrand or even the Pucci by Dundas revamp. This is like you completely want to reach a new group of clients. I mean the bags are not even good. Those shoes are hideous. I hope he proves me wrong but this is not what I’d envision for Gucci. Especially, after the ugly drama of firing Frida and the revamp they wanted.

I've been struggling with this collection for days now. My initial reaction was positive; having zero to do with the collection itself but more so the volcanic outburst of reactions I had to look forward to as is the case with any bold change in another direction. I do love new. My second reaction...horror. I have to agree with many of you, brand identity is paramount with a house like Gucci. As a young (first time RTW designer) being given this privilege, you have an obligation to respect the brand; its history, its identity. And more importantly if you're going to shock the world with your novelty do so with amazing work, not this.
