Maria Grazia Chiuri - Designer

Facts is that you need more than some hit bags, comercial success and lack of scandals to be considered a great designer.

I love women designers, from Madeleine Vionnet to Rei Kawakubo.
But not ALL women designers.
Fair answer. Honest from your side.

That’s how I felt for Karl Lagerfeld. Highly untalented childish designer. From Fendi over Chanel to his label I honestly never ever liked a single thing that man did. Not to talk about his venture in photography, sad even to called him photographer. He looked creepy to me and his apartment is one of the ugliest I ever saw ( that’s why is still on the market!)

But that’s my opinion.

Don’t get me wrong, I am not crazy about MGC but I just don’t get the hate.

I don’t understand the HATE towards her at all! Now seriously. I can understand that some of you don’t like her and most of you who do, gloryfy Daniel Lee & Haider Ackermann. 😳😳😳

First she IS a great designer. She did magnificent job together with PPP in Valentino.

She is still more sold than Nicolas Ghesquière in LV which makes her the most successful female designer currently.

She have all the hit bags while others are struggling to invent one.

She is NOT problematic while others have scandal after scandal.

And all of the stars who are wearing her Dior at red carpets usually look stunning.

I don’t understand is it a fact that you just can’t stand one WOMAN at big house that is good at what she does???

I want to hear facts not just kid answers as she repeats, copy, bla, bla. Fact is she doesn’t. High street brands are copying her at least I see her influence. Facts!!!
Her work is cheesy, borderline tacky, literal, insipid, tedious, repetitive, boring, so certainly it must resonates with some demographic.
Her commercial feminisn IS definitely problematic.

We’re bored!

This collection looks "nice", in the sense that you find all her repertoire sublimated. Same colour palette, same silhouettes, same fabrics, very well done.
She has given terrible moments to the house of Dior (even recently, the chicken-and-chandelier nightmare of haute couture ss25). This is well crafted and would be a nice goodbye.

Concerning women in fashion....
In many fields only men are allowed to be mediocre and women must be an absolute genius to be in that same place.

I find it healthy that both Kim and Maria Grazia were at the same level of imagination and creativity.
That, to me, is real equality.
We are progressing as a society.

This collection looks like everything else she has done. I am ready for her to peace out and have JW Anderson take over Dior.
I mean is this woman afraid of color? It’s so boring. I am bored to tears with her Dior and I am German and don’t cry so that’s telling….

You think she's a better designer than Haider Ackermann?

Saying Dior sells more RTW than Vuitton is like saying Chanel sells more RTW than Hermes. As if brands can be compared in terms of their historic activities.

Anthony Vaccarello sold more RTW than Daniel Lee and Mathieu Blazy but is weaker as a designer.

Valentino is way smaller than Dior but PPP touched the world with his clothes.

What will be remembered from MGC’s? An overpriced tshirt with a sensationalist slogan and a book tote.
Her best idea? Relaunching the Saddle bag. It made a fortune for Dior menswear and womenswear.

simply not true LV is bigger than dior for simple fact
  • LVMH Fashion & Leather Goods: Approximately €41 billion.

  • Louis Vuitton's contribution: While not explicitly stated, it's a major driver within the €41 billion Fashion & Leather Goods segment.
  • Since 2017 around €2.2 billion, Dior has become one of fashion’s fastest-growing and most profitable brands, with estimated revenues tripling to €6.6 billion in 2022
LV is estimated revenues €20 billion Louis Vuitton luxury’s first brand to record €20 billion in annual sales (HSBC and others have previously estimated 2022 sales crossed that threshold).

with out joking :
like VV at Chanel i don't mind the boringness she is very kind to her team at Dior i know etc , i don't hate her she did well for dior.

but she is boring allot of the times with the presentation and amount of looks , i think relying to much on mood board product design and her airhead daughter (because i know from the team) was not opening her up to bring outside people to challenge her vision for the better she is like VV a good employe merch designer.

as long as she sold i was fine it it there is a market for what she does i understand sam as VV´s Chanel tripled post KL

i think she will be good at Fendi more roman classic pretty beauty alla her old valentino with good merch to push with logo and embroideries.

i think fendi has been messy for so long it needs stable design language she is good at etc (Silvia is good at acc when there is a CD in driver seat not her, not for rtw)

Things I’ll remember from Martha Grace's time at Dior:

- Ruth Bell
- Tulle skirts in every possible shade
- The Book Tote — yes, T-O-T-E (in case we ever forgot it existed)
- A lifetime supply of Grecian goddess dresses
- And of course, fake-deep feminism slogans to cover up the creative drought

Thank you for your time. The merch sold well.

Don’t forget Selena Forrest! 🙂

who else?...

Many, many, many.
Historically, French couture's first important name is Rose Bertin, who worked for Marie Antoinette.
Lanvin, Chanel, Paquin, Schiaparelli, Mme Grès, of course Vionnet, Maggy Rouff, Nina Ricci... fashion must be one of the very few places where, for every great male artist, you can name also a great female artist.

How many women were directing movies, besides Ida Lupino, in the golden Hollywood? Where is the female Hitchcock or the female Billy Wilder?

(I am going to tell you a secret, PDFSD, but don't tell anybody: for some years, Kei Ninomiya was one of my favorite female designers...
Till I discovered Kei was a man 🤣)
