Maria Grazia Chiuri - Designer

A quick summary of her 9-year tenure of Dior:

As expected Delphine (and in some way LVMH) will always be a class act. I don't know about all the behind-the-scenes drama, but unless it ends up in a public lawsuit, I always believe that Arnault always handles their designers quite well.

The effort they put into these two videos already put other companies to shame. This is how you pay respect to a designer who helps your company grow tremendously. And I am talking about you Kering. You don't just throw them away without any regard the moment they no longer working for you.

Anyway good for her. That was quite a journey.

I think the opposite regarding her departure honestly, probably the messiest move ever from LVMH.
Rumors of Jonathan leaving Loewe back in late 2023, all the insiders knowing that he started visiting the Dior ateliers in beginning 2024, the messy rumors regarding Jonathan working with the couture ateliers while Maria Grazia and her team were still working in the same building...insiders already knew 6 months ago Maria Grazia was going to leave Dior. Furthermore, what is the actual point in making a joint collection cruise + couture and skip the couture season?
How can you avoid rumours with social media though? And only 0,00001% of the people know them. What most of the people will remember is that she had a “beautiful” last show, that they applauded her tenure on Instagram, created videos remembering her shows…

I think that’s a first ever in the industry. Remember what they did to poor John. Or Alber at Lanvin. Or VV at Chanel. Or Hedi at SL…

I think it’s great that they celebrate her and show respect, at least publicly, to what she has achieved (even if it was a 0 creatively speaking 🤣).

Never want to see anyone out of a job, but I am beyond thrilled over today's announcement. For me, Maria Grazia Chiuri's Dior campaigns were the absolute worst - not the collections. Season after season, every campaign was just so dreadful, so boring, and so mundane. Very much excited to see what's next for Dior!

SHE DID WHAT SHE COULD RIP TO HER DIOR ERA

there are worse designers still at other houses working , she should go to Fendi and it seems like it will happen according recent gossip updates.

i think its perfect for her Fendi classic non offensive rich people beauty ; Fendi is the Chanel or Hermes of Furs any ways.

You are right but to be fair even Dior men's campaign sucked big time...
(Also Fendi's...)

I just hope JWA is able to bring something different in terms of image and campaigns too and not just a translation of his Loewe imaginary.

She was supposed to be a Creative Director...but in the end, she was just a Director. I don´t care if she was a great merchandiser; and if she managed to sell so much Dior items, as McDonald´s sells hamburgers.

She didn´t deliver any creativity at all. But it´s not her fault, it´s the fault of the people who put her in charge of Dior (of course they don´t care about this...they are too busy counting all the money they got from her products).

Because Mary-Grace tenure was just that...consumer products.

To be honest, her work wasn't *that* bad, it's just there was far too much of it and far too many shows, which ruined it. If she only had four shows a year, and there was someone in her team that knew how to edit down her collections, her tenure would have been more dynamic and strong. There were good pieces here and there and good ideas. But with her endless shows and stupid Dioriviera stuff etc etc, it just became so dull. And it reinforced how lacking in fresh ideas she was. Don't get me started on her 80+ looks in one show.

The problem with Dior is that every five seconds there is a show and a collab and frankly it's exhausting. No wonder there is consumer fatigue at the moment. Simply speaking, there is too much stuff out there at the moment, especially at Dior. And in the process of overproducing they made themselves feel cheap and boring. The challenge now will be to bring the luxury and aura back after so many years of turning into expensive Zara.

If they continue at this relentless pace however, I guarantee you we will be tired of Jonathan in one year. After one year of 20 Jonathan Anderson x Dior collections and endless "drops" and CoLLaBz of the same aesthetic, it will get very repetitive very quickly.

Her best collections were the early ones when Karl Templer was the stylist. It got much worse after they switched to Elin Svahn.

I am not going to Miss Maria, but she did her job well. I agree with @Frederic01 that the ridiculous number of shows and looks in each collection was a big issue. It only highlighted how limited she can be.

One thing that I really hated about her tenure was the casting. Every time it looked like a parade of the blandest and saddest teenage girls they could find.
