Also, New Minimalism isn't about basic clothing - it's about simplicity to intrigue the viewer, to lure them in as so they look at the intricate details and don't just look up for a wow-factor. These are the basic ideas of any haute couture house.

I like this a lot - particularly some of the architectural details in the Chanel collection. It's refreshing after some of the 80s retread decadence.

i think a lot of this also goes along with recent focus on geometry, architecture, + draping rather than on detail/extreme colour... though of course there's still Rodarte et al in contrast, but I love so much of this too. The minimal colours also make anything that is coloured -- like that awesome chartreuse below, or a pop of cobalt blue shoes or whatever -- so much more of a statement.

i know! i really adore him and i'm always baffled as to why he's not a bigger deal than he is, i think his stuff is spot-on and wearable as well and fits really well into both minimalistic and detail-oriented concepts... and bears so much resemblance to much 'trendier' things, yet nobody really seems to talk about him that much. weird. maybe it's a deliberate PR choice?
