Models Who Aren't That Tall

I noticed, if you look at the shorter girls agencies sign, most of them have faces you would call exceptionally beautiful which can always work in high fashion too. BUT, an agency is almost taking a lot less of a risk signing them because their chance of attaining a beauty contract over rides any kind of negative outcome which may arise from investing time and money into her development and success.
Think Ali Michael, Amanda Norgaard, Kristine Froseth, Luma Grothe, Hannah Holman, Bambi, etc etc.

Girls like Hirschy, although undeniably high fashion, are more of a risk because they aren't as transferable from market to market.

When you think about it, the exceptions to the rules are girls SOOO amazing that any physical requirement clients usually DEMAND cease to matter.

Yes? I think it's quite interesting. Although, as per usual, there are always exceptions.

This is true! For some reason most of the shorter models are coming from Australia. I even noticed their asian models being the shortest but highly exceptional faces. They have Wendy Chen and Fernanda in their "development" section that are 5'7. They do have Merille Raagas at 5'8 which is tall for an asian but short for runway. I do hope to see their faces in the runway and big campaigns soon.

5'5" is a DEFINITE underestimation, I would say no less than 5'7.5"-5'8"

Lol, no honestly. She is definately no taller than 5ft 6 for a start.

She is a great model but people do say she lacks the height. She is definetely more average height. My mother was suspecting shorter and thats why I wanted to see what others think.

That is insane, gives me a lot of hope for a few of my friends with amazing bodies/faces who are worried about not having good enough model height and being 5'8-5'9"

I also think that Elsa Brisinger (new girl who debuted at Wang) is no taller than 5'8"

Yes. It gives hope to a lot of other girls too but I am sure models can make it based on hard work. That probably makes up for shorter height.

I know Zippora Seven is around 5ft4. She is pretty cute in height. She was even said to be 5ft 3 and half. Her agencies have to claim a taller height so they say 5ft 6. Even that is shorter than expected.

Candice is actually taller than Edita. Candice is about the same height as Aline Weber and roughly 5'9" but Candice is built very small giving the appearance of her being shorter. Even if you check out backstage shots of her when she did fashion week, she wasn't insanely short. She is tall enough to wear the finale/evening section dresses which require height. Edita is 5'8".
Another issue that makes Candice seem shorter is that her bestest friends like Erin Heatherton is over 6 feet tall. Karlie, Arlenis are also over 6 feet.

How can Candice even possibly be 5ft 9?? She is shorted than Rosie!!!! Rosie is claimed to be 5ft 9 and I thibk she is actually 5ft 8. The max Candice is would probably be 5ft 7. She is roughly around Miranda's height who is commonly believed to be 5ft 7.

Here's a great pic (that's really Candice's back side), Candice is sort of leaned over a little, her head is down a little while Miranda is standing upright, and Candice still has about an inch over Miranda. The shoulder height difference is the most obvious.

That's not the best pic because they are both on tip toes. Not being funny but to me, it looks like either they are the same height and not one taller than the other.
It also depends on the angle of the photo and how it is taken.

It's like that whole thing with Jennifer Aniston and Courtney Cox, they claim Courtney is 5ft 5 and Jen is 5ft 4 and then they claim that Courtney is 5ft 5 and Jen is 5ft 6! I bet it's the same with models.

My point there is Candice shorter than Rosie and it's obvious here. Rose is said to be around 5ft 8. Doutzen is said to be 5ft 9!!

In all those pictures, Candice has this tendency to pose sticking her butt out so she's bent or leaning over a little while Miranda is standing upright. And that first pic you post is clearly a distorted angle pic. You can even see how big Doutzen's hand is compared to Miranda who's on the far right.

You would be surprised how much taller models really are in person. For instance, I recently saw Jessica Stam and she is much taller than 5'10". I also spotted Jia Jing recently and she is listed as 5'11" but she is well over 6 feet tall. Joan Smalls is also much much taller than 5'10".
Miranda is another one who people think is a lot shorter than she really is..she is short for a model but she is a little taller than 5'7". She is built very tiny and has a baby face which gives the impression of her being smaller.

It's a pretty big myth in general that models tack on many inches of height on their comp cards. I've seen tons and tons of models from just living in NYC and models are tall and seem insecure about it. Say that models are short is a way to get non-models to get their hopes up...

This is really interesting to read because we always see the contrary, it's always that the models are shorter than their listed heights.

I'm from Australia and my real height is 5'7 and I was scouted LOTS as a teenager and my first year at university even though I told the scout I was 5'7 and would not grow. They didn't care and said they would just lie. I have a very symmetrical face and good skin (I'm not going to lie despite how conceited I may sound) so I think your point is very accurate. Face can definitely compensate for height and Australian agencies are lenient.

i work around models in nyc and im here to assure you guys, they are TALLER than you think. i am a solid 6 foot and 75% of these girls stare me eye to eye WITHOUT HEELS when i see them. i know it gives some of you shorties hope but sorry to burst your bubbles cause these chicks are amazons! ive met countless models who are listed at 5'10 and 5'11 who are actually the same height if not just as tall as me. Laura Kampman was so tall it really shocked me when i seen her in person. Ashleigh Good was super tall, Vanessa Axente had to look down at me, Maria Borges seemed to be 6'3 lol, Manuela Frey made me feel short, Joan Smalls is a giant, even Lindsey Wixson who i thought was short was surprisingly tall. Candice and Edita are NOT under 5'9 trust me! the only models who have not been noticeably tall were marine deeleeuw, jasmine tookes, kel markey, juliana schurig, and sigrid agren (who was tall but not as tall as i expected). i could go on and on

There are definitely models who aren't that tall but they are rather rare. Sometimes I think the rumors of popular models being shorter is a way to make those models and/or modeling seem more achievable. These agencies in NYC are strict and designers are even more strict. They have to be above a certain height in order to wear the samples (long enough legs and torso).
The most noticeably "short" model I've seen was Hannah Holman in flats but she is taller than average height.

I posted an interview (in Lithuanian language, sorry) with Erika Labanauskaite in her thread, where she made some comments about models height.
A brief translation of those commnets:
"Erika says that she didn't even try for runaways for quite a long time, because she didn't think she had a body for that (she's 24 now). Later in castings she was often told that she is too small and short for those 'sample' clothes and shoes, as she is only 173 cm, with 37 shoe size. And not everyone want's to make adjustments before show [...]Also she was happy to meet Cara Delevigne backstage, who is even shorter than her. "

Taylor is def not that tall. I saw her in NYMM and she seems to be 5'6" at most.
