Most Overpriced Designer?

Also, especially at Chanel, they are not targeting the 500 to 1 million a year client, more the 3/4/5+ millions a year. I know that at Saint-Laurent the special VIP club for clients starts at 2 millions per year (and there are like 90 of them), and I keep wondering how the heck someone manage to spend more than 2 millions there for oneself. Saint-Laurent isn't Chanel, they don't have lines justifying extravagant prices like jewelry, high jewelry, Haute Couture or Métiers d'Art...

They have YSL Rive Droite (their lifestyle approach entity based on Colette) . When you buy a faux fur 20000€ coat maybe you want to buy a 30k longboard for the fun. And to be honest it’s a little bit easier to build a wardrobe from YSL than from Chanel. With the pre-order and special orders, it’s also easier to reach the 2M.
And in general rich clients don’t only buys from themselves. Even at Chanel a lot of top clients buys for their daughters…

At 20,000 per coat at full retail price, 2m are a hundred coats, it needs real dedication to find a hundred coats to buy there. Visibly it doesn't stop the 0,0000001% of us...

These Ludovic de Saint Sernin dresses cost €16'000 and €17'500 respectively:

I know that these dresses are made of Swarovski Crystals and are made on a made-to-order basis, but for a glorified "male lingerie" brand to sell items that approach the starting prices of Haute Couture seems to imply a lack of self awareness.

I forgot to put the second dress... Who cares, it was virtually the same as the first one.
^Now you can match your evening wear with your lover’s jockstrap…isn’t that the dream of every woman?
If your lover is wearing a jockstrap outside of sport activities, then whether your dress matches with it is the least of your problems.

PEARLS LONG NECKLACE IN MOTHER OF PEARL AND BRASS
$19,740

I don't remember Alaïa himself ever sell jewelry this expensive before. With that price I'm expecting more than brass and copper.

Frankly, with 20k I rather go to Tiffany's and get myself an iconic Elsa Peretti piece.

^anyone who has that much money would be better off going to SJ Phillips or Pennisi or even Mikimoto and getting some real gems/pearls, almost 20k for faux pearls (plastic) is some cheek! Lanvin did tulle-wrapped faux pearls in the 00s under Alber but those never went anywhere near as high as this.

I asked about that necklace and they told me the price is strictly because of the pearls... which I feel like doesn't make any sense.

I really do think it is a trick to generate buzz, like those distressed sneakers a couple of months ago and those bedazzled "technoclogs", they know they won't sell a lot. The rest of the catalog is not as expensive, compared to other brands: their newest bags are in the 1,200 to 2,500€, and I saw some dresses under 2,000€

Margielas price going up makes sense because John is a Couturier. He's prob getting paid a minimum of 10 million a year. That's going to come from somewhere. But you're also getting couture engineering. IMO Margiela is a value except it's become more polarizing so it's harder to work than OG MMM.

John is the greatest living couturier still working. Being able to even SEE his clothes is a privilege, let alone being able to purchase it in RTW form.

10M a year at Margiela? This ain’t Chanel or Vuitton my dear…

‘He is at best getting between 3,5 to 5 M a year.

Margiela’s prices have more to do with Renzo Rosso trying to position the brands of his group as luxury than to the abilities of John. But it’s ridiculous because Margiela was never meant to be a luxury house…

Thank god they have nothing to be ashamed of in terms of products offering.
